Hi,
I posted about this in the Edge 820 forum, but have since realised that this is probably a more appropriate place.
Having just upgraded my old Edge 800 to an 820, the first thing that I noticed is that when you have 5 or more data fields on a page the height of each row remains fixed at 20% of the screen height and every additional data field just splits a row into two from the bottom row upwards. This is quite a rigid way of doing things and when using 5, 6 or 7 data fields it results in all of the data down the centre of the screen and a lot of dead space at the edges.
On the old Edge 800 and 810 the data fields would use adaptive row heights and typically have one or two larger data fields and several smaller ones, such as in the screenshots attached below. In my opinion this is a much more sophisticated way of doing things, because most people train/ride to one or two key metrics (e.g. power/speed) that you want BIG, but also like a number of secondary metrics visible on the same page, which are fine much smaller.
I'm wondering if anyone can develop a Connect IQ datafield to replicate the style of the older units? I've found the "Big Edge" data field on the Connect IQ store that looks to partially address this issue, but it's only compatible with the Edge 1000 and I don't think it supports more than 4 data fields. I've contacted that developer but thought I'd post on here too; if anyone can help out I'd glady send a donation their way!
Many thanks
Adam
