Recording

You know what would be neat? A voice recording option on the watch. I've yet to see smart watches do this. Simple recordings of a race, how you feel, see or is funny as you so your exercises. Maybe would be great for business too as a little reminder to do something. It would add another dimension to an already awesome watch. Also maybe not a bad idea for last words if you are checking out to leave a last recording for loved ones that I hope you might never use. Climbing Everest, hiking etc.

Also have a blinking light to remind you of the recording.

A ton of uses and a lot of upside to it. Cheers!

  • The watches don’t have a microphone.

  • I know. They need to put one together. Microphones can be small as this °. Just thinking out loud.

  • You are posting on the Connect IQ developer forum. We cannot develop software for hypothetic inexistent models, and without having any methods for it available in the CIQ API. Hence your suggestion posted here cannot be done by any of us.

I recommend sending your idea rather directly to Garmin: Share Ideas | Garmin

  • To be fair, Venu 2 Plus has a mic.

  • I recommend sending your idea rather directly to Garmin: Share Ideas | Garmin

Everyone always says this in response to "feature request" threads.

I'm not opposed to sending ideas to the Garmin Ideas page (I suggest it, too), but I disagree with the implication that ideas shouldn't also be posted to the forums. (Unfortunately there is no sub-forum for general feature requests.)

The problem with the Garmin Ideas page is:

    - you have no idea if anyone else in the community has the same idea

    - you don't get feedback (comments) from Garmin

    - you have no idea what status of your idea is

Posting in the forums at least solves one of those problems (for everyone else). For example, from the Garmin Connect Web forum, I can tell that users have been asking for 10+ years to support mixed metric/imperial units in Connect. It will probably never happen, but at least we know that users want it. If everyone took the advice to not post in the forums and only send an idea to Garmin, we would have no idea this is a feature that people want.

  • I do not think anyone ever told here you should not post to the forum. However, the forum is not monitored by Garmin's developers. So if people ask for a feature on the forum since 10 years, it does not guarantee any of the developers ever heard about such request, if nobody of them sent the request to the Idea page.

I recommend sending your idea rather directly to Garmin”

It’s implicit in the wording here (“rather” which I read as “instead”), unless I’m misinterpreting your intent (if so, I apologize). Along with the fact that usually people (rightfully) point out that it’s the wrong forum for that kind of request and/or there is no correct forum, as well correctly saying that Garmin doesn’t read these forums anyway (with some exceptions).

Plus I have seen the same implicit sentiment elsewhere. People usually don’t say “thanks for letting us know, you can *also* post to the Ideas page.”

So if people ask for a feature on the forum since 10 years, it does not guarantee any of the developers ever heard about such request, if nobody of them sent the request to the Idea page.

I personally feel the same way about sending ideas to the Idea page. There’s zero transparency, not even a way for Garmin to acknowledge that your idea has been read. I still do so regardless, but I don’t have a lot of hope.

In the case of mixed units in Connect, I’d guess that Garmin has some idea, since they allow mixed units on their devices.

I’ve even sent an idea to Garmin for them to improve their Idea page. Other companies have community Ideas page where the company can reply to the idea, change its status, and other user can vote and discuss the feature (like the CIQ Bug Reports page, but with better UX.) That’s something else I’m not holding out any hope over.

  • It’s just a rumour, but:

    https://the5krunner.com/2023/05/28/inbound-more-garmin-features/

I noticed Connect now has the ability to do the “opposite”: record an audio note in the app and attach it to a workout, presumably so you can listen to it when you do a workout and earbuds are connected to your watch. Maybe this rumor is a misunderstanding of that feature, idk

  • Awesome! Hope it's true. Woohoo.
