Pokemon Go Plus - Garmin App?!

Hello there,

a few days ago, Nintendo and Niantic Labs started a new "fitness" hype. Some you know it by the name Pokemon Go. ;)

Today I red that they will also release a wearable called "Pokemon Go Plus".

The wearable will connect to your smartphone via Bluetooth LE and will "warn" you via blinking and vibrating that there is a Pokestop or a Pokemon nearby.

If it is a Pokemon and if you have catched the same kind of Pokemon before, a press on a button will catch the nearby Pokemon automatically.

But unfortunately the first badge is sold out (at least here in Europe). This kept me thinking. I already own a wearable which is capable of doing all of this.

So would it be possible to create a Pokemon Go plus app for compatible devices?

I don't believe there are any open APIs for Pokemon Go at this time. ConnectIQ is unlikely to be able to interface with it unless they release one.

I had the same thought. The Pokemon Go Plus device is just a Bluetooth LTE device, so it should be possible to emulate it with a programmable Bluetooth LTE device. The issue is that afaik ConnectIQ doesn't make low level Bluetooth interaction available.

It could be done by pooling data from pokevision (i think)

I think it's possible if pooling data from pokevision.com sendind your position data from gps info and retrieving page results. I'm a developer on .net but so newbie on sdk Garmin api (I just downloaded the SDK a week ago) (:

One option is to use the Android app called PokeDetector. It sends notifications to your phone when a pokemon is nearby. And of course you can configure the notifications to show up on the Garmin.

When one appears you can pull out your phone, tap the notification, and it'll show you on a map where the pokemon is located.

Now if only someone would create a similar app for pokestops and gyms.
  • Hopefully with the Go plus being out, we get so to see some app for smartwatches (including Garmin) that behave like the Go plus. I tried finding related projects without any succes. I guess it will take a while for people to hack the plus.
  • Can someone make this?

No. And even, if someone could, it would be rather useless, since you'd need a phone for the data connection anyway (there is only one Garmin device with LTE - the Forerunner 945 LTE). And if you have a phone with you, it is much easier to use the phone for the Pokemon detection, isn't it?

  • But what if your garmin is connected to your phone with data connection you can use that data connection to make the auto catcher and auto pokestopspinner work.

  • If you have your phone with you anyway, it is easier to use the phone, isn't it? There are certainly phone apps for that.

  • Are there apps that can auto catch pokemon on pokemon go?
