Localisation of fountain

I have on my phone this app https://freetaps.earth/

I can see all the fountain around me.

That will be great if we can add this information on garmin Map or via an IQ maps

if someone can do that?

  • This would be easy to add to my GRouteLoader app/widget.

    The freetap website makes it easy to get the data.

    I’m not entirely convinced it’s generally useful.

    From my home (in a suburban area), the nearest results are in a major city (NYC) 15 miles away across a $16 toll bridge.

    There are shops/restaurants within a few blocks that one could buy water and they might even give you water for free. There are also some public fountains that are fairly close (a bit farther than the shops/restaurants).

    There are a few different organizations doing the same sort of thing. The others are not as easy to get data from.

    To be useful, there really should be one database.

    All these different organizations should probably be using Openstreetmap rather than creating their own separate and incompatible piles of data.

    ======================

    It doesn’t seem the iOS (Apple) app for freetaps exists anymore. That’s not encouraging either.

    It looks like one has to use an app to get the data. There really should be a website (something that works on any browser). That lack is odd.

    ======================

    The basic problem with having an app for this is that it suggests that the quality (reliability) of the data is good. Which it isn’t. At least, not globally.

    Keep in mind that a IQ app/widget for this still requires your phone. The phone that already has the freetaps app.
