Access to gmapsupp.img

Does anyone know if there is a way through to API to update gmapsupp.img?

I'm trying to automate a process that involves downloading a gmapsupp.img file and then copying it into place, while the device is plugged into the computer.

It would be useful to be able to write an app which could do this, for the times that one is away from the computer while traveling.

  •  No. The API only provides a way of downloading course files (as FIT or GPX, depending on the device).

Updating map is also considered a rare/unusual case (not something done “every day”). The files are often very big (most devices require being plugged into a computer for map updates).

What you want to do is out of the scope of the intent for IQ.

The newer devices tend to have world coverage anyway (which, sort of!, precludes the need to update maps while traveling).

The “gmapsupp.img” name for the map file is an “old device” thing (for devices that could only support on map file at a time).

  • I'm not trying to load maps of the generic type, I already have those on the device. I'm trying to help myself and others who use this site, https://wandrer.earth/, to explore every road in our area. The site provides a feature to download a custom map showing the unridden roads in red. That's the file that I had the idea to load on the fly, if I forgot to do it before leaving the house.
