Screen on/off for Vivoactive HR

I'd like to be able to set the screen be off most of the time and then turn on when I rotate it toward me or tap it. Basically like the backlight works now, but instead of turning the backlight on/off, it turns the screen on/off. Is this possible?
I think the Apple Watch does something like this.
  • Other brands turn off the display out of need (to save battery), but that's not case on the Garmin watches, as a feature is the "always on" display, as well as really good battery life.

If you really wanted the display to go blank with the watchface, you could build a CIQ watchface that only displays the screen when it wasn't in "low power mode", but the screen would only show for 10 seconds per "gesture".

Hmmm.... I'll get back to you. I don't actually have the device, yet. It is due to me tomorrow from REI. I'll play around with it and see if this is actually something I would want. Perhaps not.

Without having any data to back it up I suspect that a Connect IQ watch face that does what Jim described will probably use more power than just using one of the built in watch faces. The build in watch faces are very tailored to the device to optimize battery usage.
  • Ken - you are correct! "Going blank" wouldn't save much, if any battery in a CIQ watchface, but simply just not have the display show all the time.

The only reason I could see doing it would be if someone wanted a CIQ watchface and had a privacy concern about other people seeing the step data, etc.
