[Fenix 7] Receive GPS signal from phone / override internal GPS?

Hi everyone,

Do you know if it is possible to force the garmin watch to use GPS signal from phone (connected to the watch by bluetooth) instead of the watch's internal GPS sensors?

I like to swim with the watch but the water blocks the GPS signal completely. I would like to be able to get GPS from the phone that is floating in the bag I have with me.

Other garmin watch models have this feature (the ones without internal GPS) so I'm guessing this shouldn't be anything too complicated.

One could write a phone app to send GPS data to a datafield (maybe, a watch face) running on the watch but it won’t be able to override the device’s GPS.

The datafield could write the GPS data to the activity file.

It would require writing a phone app and a watch app. (So, it’s probably more complicated than you think.)

Alternatively, you could merge the phone file with the watch file.

I think Golden Cheetah might be able to do that.

Data Fields can't access Toybox.Communications, so no. An app might be able to do it though

I am also very keen on this feature, to be able to override internal GPS and selectively be able to have it accept external data
