Alarm + Sleep cycle in Vivosmart4

I use Garmin Vivosmart 4. It does have the hardware to track my sleep cycle and it has an alarm function. But why there is no connection between these two features? It is the only thing I miss in my device. Is it possible to do just with the software update?

I have the same device and would like it to alert me to alarms and timer countdowns that I set on my phone, the same way it does for my sleep/wake alarms.

  • Agree, three years later and you still can't enable the alarm along with your sleep schedule! Weird!

  • It looks like somebody developed something similar and released it on the IQ store: https://apps.garmin.com/en-US/apps/4c8224d3-1442-4c26-b253-22f624f38e33 . I have not tried it, however.

I (like many others apparently) would love this functionality. I am interested in learning Garmin app development, so I will give this a shot. Posting here to hopefully help motivate me to finish.

  • As a user of the Garmin Vivosmart 4, I've noticed a disconnect between its sleep tracking and alarm functions. While the device is equipped with the hardware to monitor my sleep cycles and wake me up with its alarm feature, there's currently no integration between the two. It's a feature I find myself wishing for as it would provide a more seamless and personalized experience. I wonder if this could be addressed through a software update. Perhaps Garmin could consider optimizing the device's firmware to allow for real-time interaction between sleep tracking data and alarm settings. It would certainly enhance the overall functionality and user satisfaction of the Vivosmart 4.

  • This is just one of the many reasons the sleep tracking / sleep mode on Garmin's is confusing. Why not have a simple toggle in the sleep mode that enables an alarm at the end of the sleep schedule.

  • I appreciate your question! The Garmin Vivosmart 4 does indeed have both sleep tracking and an alarm function, but currently, these two features are not connected. Many users have requested this integration, and while it’s not available yet, Garmin sometimes adds new capabilities through software updates. Hopefully, if there’s enough demand, they might consider linking these features in a future update. Thank you for sharing your feedback, and stay tuned for any new announcements from Garmin!

The Garmin Vivosmart 4 does indeed have the sensors needed for sleep tracking (accelerometer, pulse ox, heart rate) and it also has an alarm, but Garmin designed them as separate functions.

Here’s why they aren’t connected right now:

    • The sleep tracking feature is mostly processed after syncing with Garmin Connect, not in real time on the device. That means your band doesn’t always know instantly which sleep stage you’re in.

The Garmin Vivosmart 4 does indeed have the sensors to monitor sleep patterns and an alarm feature, but they currently function independently. The device doesn’t support a “smart alarm” that wakes you during a light sleep phase — something that would require integrating sleep tracking data in real-time with the alarm system.

Technically, this could be added through a software or firmware update, as the hardware already supports the necessary sensors. However, Garmin hasn’t implemented this feature yet. You might want to share this feedback on Garmin’s official forums — they do consider user suggestions for future updates and new models..
