App to Send Recorded Activites to Phone/Dropbox

Given the recent Garmin hack and a combination of CIQ and iOS/Android app that enables the user to extract the FIT files from a watch or an Edge unit in case of Garmin Connect being unable to do so.

This would be very useful for e.g. Fenix and iOS users, since the Fenix (unlike Edge units) doesn't mount as a file system on iOS devices (I think it uses the MTP protocol which cannot be access from e.g. an iPad Pro), however, I am unaware whether CIQ and/or iOS apps have access to past activities stored on the device.

Use Aft (https://www.android.com/filetransfer/) on your mac and you can access an MTP device

Damn - I feared that might be the issue...

Does anybody have a solution/idea for iOS users that don't have access to a PC/Mac (e.g. while being on the road) how to get data from an MTP device (like a Fenix 5 watch)?

Use Aft (https://www.android.com/filetransfer/) on your mac and you can access an MTP device

Thank you for all your answers guys:

(a) I am aware that it is trivial via Mac & PC and have done it multiple times - this was meant specifically while I am on the road. To my surprise I was able to get my workouts off my Edge 530 to an iPad Pro using an USB-C to USB 2.0 dongle, neat. Of course this does not work with the Fenix 5+ which doesn't mount as an HD. It did work with my wife's ancient 235, though.

(b) I already use Fitnesssyncer to create FIT and GPX dumps of all my activities on my Dropbox, however, with Garmin being down for good that of course didn't work.

For the Android crowd: What happens when you connect a MTP device to an Android tablet? Can you see the file structure? Might be worth getting a super cheap backup Android tablet then.

The edge 530 isn't MTP (it doesn't have music) which is why you can see it on your iPad. Apple only supports their own media devices, which is why you need something special to see MTP devices on Apple products.

I use Android, but not really set up to connect an MTP device (don't have the proper cables, etc), but my guess is it should work.

I am aware that the Edge 530 isn't MTP - doesn't play music, doesn't it. ;)

Thanks for point out that there might be a chance using Android - I'll try to find an Android phone with an USB-C connector and see how far I get with it.
