Can we develop a Dive Computer App to use on the new 6 series devices? The Quaxis fits my sailing lifestyle but it would be nice to have one device for sailing and diving.

I have reached out to Garmin to see if they are planning on making the Dive Computer app available to install on the newer devices. The answer I got was "doubtful because that is on the fitness side and we are on the navigation side" The devices are the SAME. Maybe I wont buy the Garmin after all.

I just found the restrictions from Garmin. Is there other sites where we can get third party apps? Where can I find instructions to install third party apps.

If there are apps outside the app store, those would be available from the developer, maybe on their own site ot by way of email, and would need to be installed by hand (a side load), and some functions would not be usable, like app settings and fit contributor.

You could get the Descent (I think this is the diving specific watch) which would have native dive computer and _should_ be ok for Garmin to approve (alternative) dive computer apps IF they are built to support ONLY this version of watch. (You need to ask Garmin)

The other apps for sailing, you can get 3rd Party CIQ apps or build your own.

That would be best I believe.

Also - if you can code, or commission someone to do it for you, you can load the CIQ App created directly into your _own_ watch (not published to the store. Or rather, you can publish it to the store but put it under BETA mode such that _only_you_ can get access to it and use it. No One else.)

This is how I am able to use my own Varia Radar Datafield (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=x2m5agTtrrk) which was denied for distribution from Garmin but I am using it w/o issues. _own_ usage

I will be using it on my sailboat more than diving. I have a Galileo dive computer. I just can't believe they will not make the app available on the marine versions because the dive app is part of the fitness group even though the units are the same.

believe it.. market segmentation is one. the other is, are you absolutely sure the internals as the same? That they are made to be of the same level of accuracy for to be be able to be used as a dive computer? As in the barometer or whatever it's called, has the same amount of quality level needed under pressure?

Perhaps it's also a Tier 1 part vs a Tier 2 part where the pressure capability differs by 1% or 5%. Companies does this all the time, the lower tier part can still be used but due to it's reduced capability, it goes to watches / devices that does not need that level of accuracy,

It looks like the newer watches limit depth measurements to 20 feet.

That is, the hardware blocks any dive app from being useful.

The prob is the watch isn't designed for swimming at depth yes it's depth rated ie if dropped into river/sea but not for actual moving like finning which Could damage the watch due to pressure... Hence not good idea to take such expensive watch diving... Which I'd love to do for the heart rate side
