Altitude always too low at the top of the pass (cycling)

Hi all.

I have some problems with altitude measurement on cycling tours over some mountain passes. I always manually calibrate the altimeter to exact altitude according to the accurate map just before starting my ride.

At the top of the pass (e.g. 1000 m higher) it always shows me around 50-70 meters too little. It happened a few times in the past, and it was never accurate, also it never failed in a positive direction.

Weather conditions were always more or less stable - sunny weather. The time elapsed between the beginning of a ride and being on top of the pass is let say 1-2 hours.

I have automatic altimeter calibration turned OFF and barometer mode is set to ALTIMETER.

Does anyone have the same experience that the altimeter is always showing a few 10 meters less than it should at the top of the pass while cycling?

I should mention that I wear a watch on the left hand - that means the sensor port is facing the driving direction. That means some wind is constantly blowing into the sensor port which might distract altitude measurement (pressure is constantly higher because of the wind).

Next time I will try to wear a watch on my right hand, so the sensor port will not be exposed to the air blow.

Do you have any recommendations?

Thanks
