Tee shots location 'Rough' instead of 'Tee Box'

After yesterday's round I noticed that almost all my shots from the tee box were registered with Lie Type 'Rough'. This results in incorrect stats :(

It looks like this was because the tee boxes are very small and do not represent the real size of the tee boxes (as can be see in the birdiebook and on Google Maps). Quite a hassle to change this manually to 'Tee box' or change the location to the tee box, which then automatically changes the Lie Type to 'Tee Box'.

Do other people also experience this? I.e. are there more courses that have tiny teeboxes in the Garmin app that are not in-line with the real size?

A few solutions I could think off besides the courses/Garmin having to re-do the maps.

1. Every first shot of the hole = Tee Shot

2. Make it easier to change the shot types (e.g. overview page of the course with drop-downs)

3. .... I'm pretty sure there are other smart ways to solve this

  • I’ve experienced the issue both with manual registration of strokes on my fenix8 as well as during a round where my CT10 has registered the strokes.

in both cases I’ve used my Z30, but not at Tee which thus shouldn’t have an impact.

  •  , thanks for your reply. My question was if all your shots from the tee box visually are 'within' the tee box? See my screenshot above. >70% of my shots start visually 'outside' the tee box, which I assume Garmin uses as reference for the start location of the shot. If I compare to the Open Streed Map data (e.g. https://www.fairwaymapper.com/map/golfclub-zeewolde-nl) the tee boxes are much larger then the ones on the Garmin map. If the tee box size/location is taken as a basis, I presume there will always be issues. I think it would be much more logical if every first shot on a hole is registered as from a Tee Box, independent of the exact location.
