Tee shots location 'Rough' instead of 'Tee Box'

After yesterday's round I noticed that almost all my shots from the tee box were registered with Lie Type 'Rough'. This results in incorrect stats :(

It looks like this was because the tee boxes are very small and do not represent the real size of the tee boxes (as can be see in the birdiebook and on Google Maps). Quite a hassle to change this manually to 'Tee box' or change the location to the tee box, which then automatically changes the Lie Type to 'Tee Box'.

Do other people also experience this? I.e. are there more courses that have tiny teeboxes in the Garmin app that are not in-line with the real size?

A few solutions I could think off besides the courses/Garmin having to re-do the maps.

1. Every first shot of the hole = Tee Shot

2. Make it easier to change the shot types (e.g. overview page of the course with drop-downs)

3. .... I'm pretty sure there are other smart ways to solve this

I’m addicted to reviewing the shot maps after a round. Today for the first time I noticed on most of my tee shots (1st shot) the Lie Type was indicated as rough. Aren’t all 1st shots from a Tee Box?

LJ157 - Your logic is correct; it should always show the lie type as "Tee Box" for their tee shot if taken from a tee box that our course mapping recognizes. The lie type should be populated based on where the device recorded the shot on the map for the course.

If playing a course with newly added tee boxes and the CourseView mapping is not up to date, that could cause rough as the lie type if our mapping still shows that location as rough.

All of that being said, we'd like to take a closer look at this. Do we have permission to view your Garmin account and activity data to do so? Also, can you please provide some screenshots of what you're seeing?

Absolutely you may view my Garmin account data and activity. I will send a few screenshots. I noticed all the tee boxes for my courses are small square areas and the holes that display rough show my location slightly outside of the small square. I do not have a premium subscription.

It just seems to me the default for the 1st shot should be Tee Box regardless of map view.

Here are 2 screen shots. Both tee shots are outside of the square box tht Garmin shows as a free box. Is that a mapping issue? Our tee boxes have not changed significantly in the 7 years I have been playing them. LJ

Hi, if you look in magnification of the pictures where your drive starts, then you can see before the white line a darker green rectangle, that's the tee box.

It looks like, that the registered starting point of your drive does not match with tee point. I have it also on my shot cards. Maybe Garmin has to make the tee box area greater...
