Former Member
Former Member
Hi all,

Yestereday I did my best 10km race, however, it doesn't appear as a personal record. I expected it would appeared "automatically" :( How it works? Do I have to do something else? I have a Garmin 910XT

Thanks!
Hartmann
  • The system that detects personal records has restrictions. They are listed if you click the little information icon on the Personal Records are of the dashboard. They are listed in the image below.

    What was the distance on the entire uploaded activity?

    Hi!

    The distance was 10.19km (207 yd of difference) and it does not appear. The same thing it happens with half marathon and marathon. I ran both but none of them appears on my records :-( Maybe Am I doing something wrong? I use Garmin connect and after that I post some comments, however I've never modified distance or time.

    Thanks!
  • They don't publish the thresholds used. The functionality could be broken, or your run could be too long for the system to consider it a 10K. Your run was 1.9% longer than a 10K, which seems like a small amount of error, but that could be too much. If you haven't already you can flag it as a PR manually by clicking the little medal icon in the details view.

    I am using fenix 2 and I had a tough workout yesterday (for me):

    Mile Repeats: 7 miles w/3x1 mile @ 8:20
    * 1 mile worm up
    * 3x (1 mile @8:20 + 0.5 recovery)
    * 1 mile cool down

    I am not the fastest runner, but I was happy to have run one mile @8:12 and I was expecting both my 1k and 1mile records to be updated...
    Hasn't happened...

    I tried to manually replace my existing 1 mi personal record, but it is asking me if I want to replace:
    * 1 mile in 10m00s, to
    * 1 mile in 1h09m33s... I just can't click OK.

    This seems to be a similar issue... not trying to hijack the thread. I just find odd that I have to run only 1 mile to have a PR assigned...
  • If you read the above posts, you should see what is going on. I'll repeat it for you. If you want to get a properly recorded PR for a 1 mile run, your entire activity has to be 1mi long. i.e.,

    • Warm up thoroughly. When you're ready to do your PR attempt...
    • Start running and then press the Start button.
    • Run 1 mile
    • Press the Stop button and then stop running.
    • Hold the Reset button to save your activity.
    • Upload your activity, and possibly flag that activity as a PR.

    By the way, it seems excessive to re-open five threads and post exactly the same thing. Especially when each of those posts describes the limitations of the system and tells you what you need to do to make it work. I think it would be a good idea to go back and delete your posts from all those other old threads...

    Hello Travis, thank you for your reply!
    I found a lot of threads to have the same question... And I still can't identify a moderator that re-directs all questions to a single "master" answer... It looks like users never get any answer (from Garmin)!

    I understand the problem and the "fix". I just think what we are asking is feasible.
    The answer from Garmin could be "thank you for your comments, but not possible..." at least something!

    Things are meant to be improved.
    If I get an answer from Garmin, I would modify my posts to place a link to it.
  • For the most part, the Garmin forums are peer-to-peer support. Most of the moderators are not employees of Garmin. If you want to get an answer from Garmin, you have to e-mail or call Garmin Support directly.

    Oh, that's a surprise for me!
    Thanks for letting me know. I guess I would try to contact them directly...

    Swat Cat... did you contact them directly? What did they say?
  • You can also assign an activity as a PR. For example, I did a 5k a couple weeks back that was a bit short of 3.1 miles, but I was able to select it and assign it as a PR for 5k.
