Garmin Connect Chart Scaling

Former Member
Former Member
It would be extremely nice to be able to configure the y-scale on charts for any given workout. I have an activity where I gained ~100ft elevation and lost about the same, yet it looks like a straight line because it is scaled 0-1200ft.

  • Yes, yes, yes! The graphs are clumsy at best.

    Garmin Connect Chart Scaling

This is absurd. I thought that there may be an answer to this issue somewhere is this thread but evidently Garmin does not read the user forums. This particular problem/feature has had people complaining for a number of years with no resolution.

    I totally agree.
It's absurd that I have to export activities to 3rd side applications (i.e. RunKeeper) in order to see pace and elevation charts normally scaled.
  • axis settings and full screen view of the map

Completely agree, setting the axis scale on all graphs is something I was missing too.
Also, you can expand all chart windows (to full screen view), but you cannot do this with the map that is showing your route! And that would be useful for looking at longer bike rides and runs with more overview in more detail!

+1 why can this not be changed?

I'm going to add a +1 on this just to keep it in someone's thoughts - the graphs are next to useless with the scales as they currently are, what can I do with a altitude graph that goes from -200 to 100 when my run only went from 40 to 60?

    also 1+ here

scaling does not work proper for reports added to dashboard. As example adding the average heart rate of the last month aktivities the y-scale goes from 0 to 200. This makes the graph not readable as the single points of activities are to close together. So the scaling should be start from rest heart rate witch is set in the personal profile or scale it on the lower limit to the lowest point of average plus footroom 5-10% and the upper limit of average plus headroom of 5-10%. Some behaviour with report on dashboard with average Cadence, average maxium Heartrate and so on.
Also show the average value in the dashboard would be very handy!
  • Here's agreat example of chart scaling done correct.

I exported my MTB ride from Garmin Connect into Suunto MovesCount.

Not only have they got the scaling done a lot better, but you can even full screen the map, and depending what graphing you select, it dynamically changes the colouring on the course to suite.

    Movescount: http://www.movescount.com/moves/move71308809

    Garmin Connect: https://connect.garmin.com/modern/activity/851964368

I know which one i prefer, and that's why I export from Garmin Connect into MovesCount

The scales chosen by the Garmin program are not sensible. On a recent kayak ride, my elevation ranged from about 25 to 40 feet, but the scale was -250 to +250 feet. 0 to 50 would have been good.

On my run this afternoon, my heart rate went from about 105 to 145. The scale was 120 to 160. It didn't even show some of the data! 100 to 150 would have been fine.
  • Does it even matter if I add my voice? Five years and you still can't adjust the y-axis scale in graphs? Or am I just missing it? I don't understand why when my pace varies from 8 to 10 the graph goes from 2 to 12?
