It would be extremely nice to be able to configure the y-scale on charts for any given workout. I have an activity where I gained ~100ft elevation and lost about the same, yet it looks like a straight line because it is scaled 0-1200ft.
I agree. The scaling on elevation is inconsistent and usually unhelpful. Living at a base elevation of 5300', scaling my runs to 0 gives a straight line. Sometimes the graph is intelligent and just shows a range of 300' or so, but I can't predict when that will happen or force it to happen.
The pace scaling is similarly flawed - the reply by Garmin that "most people want it scaled 0-Max" is neither helpful nor customer friendly.
This is really needed, when looking at especially the elevation chart it takes away all joy of running a hilly course. Please fix automated scaling witch adjust to max and min for that specific run.
Come on Garmin, saying 'that's what people want' is not only lazy but a blatant lie. Noone trains at -200m below sea level, so why the hell do all the graphs autoscale to that when I've not even dropped below +50?! The current system is a complete joke and coupled with the fact that the zoom function is so awful and most of the data points are chopped out, the whole data graphing experience is basically useless.
FWIW I completely disagree with the 'smoothing' effect of an oversized scaling. A proper scaling (i.e. using the min and max values of each activity) may make it look 'jagged' as you say, but the numbers will be there on the axis for you to see. Then it's easy for you to judge how big or small your climbs were. Simple.
+1 on elevation. I can possibly understand that pace isn't scaled when you actually have values ranging from quite slow/standstill, but why do the elevation chart has a -300 meter to 200 meter when all my values are between 0 and 40?
Crazy - just bought a Garmin, and the web analytics are useless. I generally have about 400m accumulated climb per hour, which of course impacts heartrate and speed.
But the altitude graph is flat... it would be great to have this user configurable, would be fine for everyone who exercises near home, apart from a minority who travel the world.
But every app I've used (Sportstracklive, Runtastic, Polar) automatically filters, so why not Garmin?
If "0-max plus a bit more" is so "good" for elevation, then why is heartrate "min-max"?
One graph area with checkboxes to superimpose altitude, heartrate, speed etc is the way to go as well - again, Polar, Sportstracklive & Runtastic offer this, it's not rocket science. Makes it much easier to interpret the outputs.
For some reason tonight's cycle ride, along my local canal tow path, logged a spike speed of over 135mph !!! this has totally altered all of my long term data, reports and averages. How about the option to create custom graphs as well.
