Is Garmin still hating Hiking as an activity category?

From 2020 to 2023

How do I (conveniently) show my hikes when viewing activites in Connect for Android?

In 2024:

Hiking is not a filtering option on GCM to list activities?

In 2026

In a resigned mood: Is Garmin still hating Hiking as an activity category?

And finally a fun fact:

If at https://connect.garmin.com/app/activities somebody choose the other category ("standing person with hands above his head" icon) the following sub-categories can be chosen:

  • Archery
  • ATV
  • Auto Racing
  • Bike to Run Transition
  • Boxing
  • Breathwork
  • Disc Golf
  • Driving
  • Gaming
  • Floor Climbing
  • Flying
  • Golf
  • Hang Gliding
  • Horseback Riding
  • Hunting
  • Hunting/Fishing
  • Inline Skating
  • Meditation
  • Mixed Martial Arts
  • Motocross
  • Motorcycling
  • Mountaineering
  • Overland
  • RC/Drone
  • Rock Climbing
  • Run to Bike Transition
  • Sky Diving
  • Stopwatch
  • Swim to Bike Transition
  • Transition
  • Whitewater Kayaking/Rafting
  • Wind/Kite Surfing
  • Wingsuit Flying

So Hiking is not good enough to be filtered but any of these sports/  categories are so.

  • We all got different buttons so it depends a lot on what activities we log. Maybe also the type of devices added to Garmin Connect.

Which device are you using? Can it log hiking or do you manually change to hiking afterwards in GC?

  • My wife has a Venu Sq 2 which does not have a native hiking activity profile. So, I manually changed one of her walking activities to hiking and was then able to see a hiking button.

  • You are the clever one. Thanks.

I indeed had had some hundreds of hiking, but manually I changed all of them to Walking when I saw that there was no Hiking filtering. Maybe at that time this restriction was just in GCM IOS (still there) and not in GC web.

I do not want to start any debate about when Hiking as a category was added to GC web.

What is sure that I was wrong, and my false assumption was based on the restrictions in GCM IOS.

Fun fact: after now I changed one of my runs to Hiking as a test Hiking as a category appeared even in GCM IOS. So Garmin developed it some unknown time to have an intelligent filtering.

I am deadly sure that earlier like in 2020-2024 it was not the case.

What I still miss is a sort of GC / GCM manual or a list of real changes in release notes, because what we can see there does not elaborate what was changed  :
