Discontinued connection to PAI Health - why??

I use a fantastic app called PAI Health (Personal Activity Intelligence). I was now told by the PAI Health team that Garmin is refusing them to access Connect data through the API that Garmin provides after Feb 10th. Why on Earth would Garmin want to stop 3rd party apps to make use of their APIs?? Can you please elaborate on this for me? Do you want to force your clients to switch to Polar, Apple or (God forbid) Fitbit or whatever??

  • They did the same  earlier for Withings.

I do not think Withings ever had access to the API, hence it could not have been cancelled.

  • If Garmin wanted to respond, why did they not put out a statement? Or why does a moderator not respond to this thread? Any ways, please update us if Garmin replies to you.

  • If Garmin wanted to respond, why did they not put out a statement?

You mean they should release all their contracts and cancelled deals, or access violations every day for everyone to see (including their competitors)? That's a rather foolish argument. If you want to know, pick the phone and call Garmin's PR department, or at least the Customer Support, and try to find it out. Or become a shareholder, and perhaps you get some access to that data.

  • They should close down the forums while they at it. Everyone should contact the PR department instead.

And some of us are smart enough to know better than to waste time with customer support. Neither will we become shareholders just because some crazy person on a forum suggested it as a solution to our problem.

  • They should close down the forums while they at it.

This is a user forum for the mutual help. If you want a statement from Garmin, you need to contact them directly. We, the users, can help you here with many technical or usage issues, but we know nothing about Garmin's business. That's why I am telling you to pick up the phone and call Garmin, if you want to know the answer. They won't see your question here.

  • Thanks for your effort. PAI is working just fine using Fitbit (Google) and Apple data. If Apple with their onerous T&Cs is okay with them, chances of them violating T&Cs on other platforms is close nil. Also, the only data PAI seems to be taking from Garmin Connect is heart rate data. On the other hand, Garmin Connect supplies platforms like Strava with way more data such as GPS, cadence, watts, etc. Seems like a Strava/Relive situation where Garmin is simply cutting off the smaller player simply because they can.

  • If PAI did violate T&Cs or use an unauthorized API, they should have been banned immediately without any notice, especially considering the hack last year. Giving PAI a months notice solidifies PAI as the good guy.

  • A smart person would say that this site is hacked

A smart person would know what CloudFlare is
