I was half way to completing the 2021 "January Ride to 200" challenge with ZWIFT rides and now my progress says zero.
My ZWIFT rides have always counted in the past challenges... is this something new??

Well, the thing about that position from Garmin of using Garmin devices for Badges/Challenges is that I'm using a freaking TACX Neo 2T, albeit through Zwift. I just don't understand the logic that…
I was just chatting with Garmin Support, and yes they recently made an update which blocks 3rd party services from challenges. Yes, their challenge guidance states Garmin device activities are required…
The badges are just for motivation, right?
Why does not Garmin want their users to be motivated? Who really cares how the training has been recorded?
I think this is just a way of Garmin to push their…
Can confirm. None of the badges are available unless recorded through a Garmin device, even though Zwift is connected at partner level.
So I'm just transposing everything into Connect by messing with the recording device through the fit file (I have a Fenix and a Neo 2, and it's just MUCH easier to do this than faff around during exercise), to keep up to date until the hacks are replaced by robust and meaningful process.
I have to say, that this "closed architecture" nonsense needs to stop. Garmin has the best gear by far, especially after the Tacx acquisition. So the software and Connect in particular needs to do exactly that and connect with EVERYTHING. Limiting these processes is a put off to consumers as it ironically....achieves nothing....through it's use aside from raising the consumer overhead.
Hopefully this closed mindedness is changing going forward. If the plan is to consolidate the boundaries of a "Garmin Ecosystem" that would be a shame. Especially in the context that the Connect Interface is nowhere near a market leading product.
I mean Strava is terrible for Insight still, but it's better than Connect. If Garmin just turn into another Apple, where none of their stuff works with 3rd Party software, it would be a deal breaker for me. It's why I've not bought anything from Apple since the first iPod.
Why do Zwift rides not count towards challenges when tacx rides do ? Ok
It works! Just recorded two sessions on Zwift. Both appeared on Garmin Connect after Garmin Fenix 6X Pro synced, with exercise load points and updated training status. Climbs are also counted towards July climbing challenge badge. Happy days! :) Garmin you're the best!
Sounds almost too good to be true. Need more forum members confirming this before calling this a success and closing out the thread.
I don't know how they're rolling out this feature. Seems like not at once for everybody... After I've read this article and tried it out - it wasn't working for me either. But I left sync to Garmin Connect configured in Zwift and yesterday it worked. I will check it again tomorrow.

Thanks. That would be great.
So it counted from the update from your watch, rather than the Zwift .fit file? I think the problem is that it's not updating from just the Zwift integration.
My understanding from the DCR article that vst-cz linked...
Garmin quietly rolled out an update yesterday that means you’ll now get training load updated on your Garmin devices for workouts done in Zwift, TrainerRoad, The Sufferfest, and the Tacx App, all without using a Garmin device to record them.
Well in that case...kewl ;)
my apologies to everybody, I jumped the gun. Got too excited about exercise load points being counted. It's only training load, not the badges :( My ascent gain which was counted for July Cycling Climb badge is from my real ride earlier. Sorry.
