I was half way to completing the 2021 "January Ride to 200" challenge with ZWIFT rides and now my progress says zero.
My ZWIFT rides have always counted in the past challenges... is this something new??

Well, the thing about that position from Garmin of using Garmin devices for Badges/Challenges is that I'm using a freaking TACX Neo 2T, albeit through Zwift. I just don't understand the logic that…
I was just chatting with Garmin Support, and yes they recently made an update which blocks 3rd party services from challenges. Yes, their challenge guidance states Garmin device activities are required…
The badges are just for motivation, right?
Why does not Garmin want their users to be motivated? Who really cares how the training has been recorded?
I think this is just a way of Garmin to push their…
I'll tell you how I fixed it for me. I use Rouvy. Go to Garmin Connect into activities and download any Garmin origin activity as TCX-File. Open this file with some editor, its a XML-format. Search for this text, it will be at bottom of the file:
Copy this block. Go to Rouvy or ZWIFT and download your activity as TCX-File. Search there for the same block, in Rouvy this is right on top:
Replace this block with that from Garmin file.
Save and upload this file into Garmin. You will see that Garmin shows your device in the activity detail page and it will count on challenges.

These are all workarounds. Do they help to count Garmin exercise load points to reflect them in overall training status? I use fitfiletools.com to fix my .fit files. I just don't understand what's the point of this restriction. Isn't it obvious that the more people use Garmin connect platform, the more likely they end up buying a Garmin device? They just shoot in their own leg by annoying the whole Zwift community.
I totally agree. It seems Garmin does not want you to use its platform unless you use its devices. The problem is I have a Garmin device it just does intergrate with others systems nicely. If it did I would not need so many work around. Hey Garmin - how about a Zwift or Peloton app for the watch that integrates with the system. If you want to force your users to use their device then make those devices about to work with the various equipment out there.
Totally agree here. I am huge peloton user (tread + and bike). If my Garmin Venu 2 dies I will definitely thing about my next purchase. The Garmin system is strong enough to keep me unless they play nice with the other people on the playground. This is the reason I left Fitbit years ago, not Apple Health Integration. I really do not want a Apple Watch because they stink with Peloton too. With that being said Peloton bought a wearable company. Problem is a watch is watch and needs to be compatible with competitors in order broaden the market. If you have a closed system, you are minimizing the market.
So more evidence, that Garmin/Tacx hardware is benchmark stuff, Garmin Connect/Software is quite frankly diabolical.
Cross platform development with PARTNERS such as Zwift should be the focus, not corporate hackery at the behest of their consumers. Most of whom know how to get around such idiocy anyway.
Moves like this, just create bad feeling and work for users. Get a decent bunch of devs in Garmin!
Garmin just added some support.
"Garmin Training Status Now Includes Zwift, TrainerRoad, The Sufferfest and Tacx App Workouts"
It looks like they are working with partners such as Zwift.
Seems like a move in the right direction post acquisition then. Good news.
Might have to test a 40k ride this weekend, to see if Garmin Connect gives me the badge though! ;)
I didn't see anything about badges and challenges, but it might work. It is worth a test.
Ray will ask about that. He says that in a comment to the blog post.
I just did a 43km ride and, while it shows up in the app, the badge was not awarded.
