ZWIFT Rides No Longer Count Towards Challenges?

I was half way to completing the 2021 "January Ride to 200" challenge with ZWIFT rides and now my progress says zero.
My ZWIFT rides have always counted in the past challenges... is this something new??

  • The Garmin challenges have been motivating me since June when they started introducing so many more. I have chosen Garmin over Strava. I am also a Zwifter with Tacx Neo. My GC cycling activity data shows I have ridden over 6,400 miles in the last 12 months and around 6000 of that is from Zwift activities.  My Zwift miles have counted for all previous challenges.  GARMIN, can you analyze these current challenges and see how many of your users the change effects? I suspect it is probably MOST of them or at least a very high %.  You are not hurting Zwift with that rule, only yourselves and your users. Please change your policy to include Zwift activities for challenges.

  • Dear support team, a few days ago all cycling activities for this month that had been accumulating towards challenges zeroed out and have stopped adding at all now. The activities are in the Garmin app but just not contributing to challenge totals.
Any help would be gratefully received

  • I do have the same problem for January! It worked perfect thw months before....ThinkingThinkingThinking

  • Well, that would be new and not appropriate following the description and rules of the challenges, I think.

  • Okay, so desperate times call for desperate measures because I refuse to lose all of my contributing data to Garmin badges.  I am now recording my data using Garmin devices for my rides and runs but also connecting to Zwift which takes care of everything going forward (VERIFIED).  In order to capture my previous mileage from runs and ride I simply started a run/ride workout on my fenix 6 for 1 second, saved it and then collected my activity data and entered the data manually and it counted towards the badges.

The thing that is so freakin' silly about this is that I just demonstrated a very easy way to cheat the challenges but I'm certain most of us are doing this for the right reasons so Garmin really needs to explain themselves a bit better other than saying they only take data from Garmin devices.  Even if this had been their policy they should have reconsidered it AND they should have at minimum warned everyone this was about to happen and grandfathered everyone in for at least January.

  • Here is another fix which I like a lot.  There is a web site called FIT File Tools, you can download your FIT file from Garmin that has the Zwift info and change the DEVICE CHANGER.  I just tried it by changing my device to tacx, which is what I'm actually using.  When I re-uploaded the file it counted towards challenges.  You can do the same with running by selecting a device such as your watch (eg. fenix, etc).

Web site is located at: https://www.fitfiletools.com

A little bit of pain collecting your previous rides/runs to date but it works like a champ.

Garmin still needs to reconsider their ridiculous stance on this.

  • If that actually works it shows just how stupid this decision is. We don't all use garmin devices indoors (and I can't due to hardware limitations esp with single connection bluetooth from indoor cycling trainer) so it's the policy that's wrong.

Also what's to say if they stop this feature now they stop uploading of all virtual rides not recorded on a garmin device in future - stupid policies like this lead to lack of trust. I don't want to risk losing my history of virtual rides or have them frozen in future so no more can be added.

If I can't stay in the Garmin ecosystem for all my fitness activities (outdoor walks/rides and indoor rides) I'll think twice (more than twice actually) when it comes to replacing my current watch.

  • That’s ridiculous. It worked for years just fine and Garmin decided to make a change. Why? Garmin needs to add it back. You do the activity on Zwift  and Zwift is “linked” to Garmin account. It should count towards your challenge. The activity appears in Garmin just not counting towards challenge. Another way Garmin is screwing their base. They probably want a kickback from Zwift.

  • They probably want a kickback from Zwif

Not sure whether it is the case, but that would be perfectly justified. If Zwift's users use Garmin's software for processing the data from Zwift, Zwift should participate on the development, maintenance, and support costs of the platform. It is saving them big money that they would otherwise have to spend on their own system.
