Ability to change "Sleep Goal" from 8 hours

I did some research on this and apparently the 8 hour sleep goal is hard coded in. You can change your 'normal wake/bed time' in User Settings but it does NOT change your sleep goal. I realize 8 hours is an age old standard, but not having the ability to change this is very frustrating. The only time I sleep 8 hours is when I'm sick. A lot of us live healthy lives on way less than that, thus we should have the ability to change it like we can our step goals. Thanks!
  • +3 to this problem.  The default 8 hrs is too high.  Six hours sleep goal is better.

  • Very disappointing to see the greyed out checkmark when I miss Garmin's sleep goal of 8 hours.  There is nothing magic about 8 hours, for some people 5 hours is adequate if slightly unhealthy, but 7 hours is good enough and healthy enough for most.  Please let the user alter their sleep goal.  It would be far healthier for me to get up when I wake up refreshed after 7 hours sleep rather than slumbering on for another hour just to meet the imposed sleep goal.

Do you check Garmin Connect every couple of minutes while you sleep, or how does the greyed out checkmark prevent you from sleeping and waking up in the way you want? Smiley

  • Agreeing with most of you here.  Adjusting the sleep goal is important to me.  I just don't like it when I can't achieve a goal and I consider sleep goals to be important.  7:00-7:30 hours does me nicely.

  • Nope, I go to sleep and wake up when I am ready to wake up, typically between 7 and 7.5 hours later.  Sometimes, I lie on in bed just to get the mark, but that is a waste of time and I often doze off again and wake up wrecked.  So, the greyed out mark as you are aware, does not stop me from sleeping, but it irritates me to miss out on a goal, especially an imposed goal.

    Why???

but it irritates me to miss out on a goal, especially an imposed goal.

Again, I do not understand why. What reward do you expect for meeting the goal? If the watch tells you to jump out of the window, will you do it too?

  • I am currently recovering from an Achilles tendon injury.  My rehab involves Steps (10,000 daily), Sleep (minimum 7 hours), Intensity Minutes (500 per week).  I am motivated by getting those little green ticks.  As I recover, my goals will increase for steps and intensity minutes.  My physio also checks in on my body battery from time to time.  I have stretches and exercises also, but seeing those little green ticks means a lot to me when I can't run.  I don't need the 8 hours sleep and that irritates me.  If you don't get it, that's fine for you.  There are probably lots of things we both do that the other wouldn't get.

  • those little green ticks means a lot to me

If you really need to see the green ticks, use the GCOverrides. When the customized Sleep Goal is met, you get your long awaited green checksign. But frankly told, it sounds more like some kind of Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder (OCD), since it is completely irrational. Probably nothing serious, but watch out for other symptoms, not to get into troubles, and consider consulting a therapeut. Please take no offension, it is just a friendly advice.
