Anyone know the mechanism for location based badges?

Some badges are location based, but some people still get them even if they are not in that location. One example are the Songkran Festival badges (festival in Thailand).

The description for those badges are:
* Record an activity on Songkran Festival, April 13~15, 2019
* Record 2nd activity on Songkran Festival, April 13~15, 2019
* Record 3rd activity on Songkran Festival, April 13~15, 2019

I recorded one activity during that period but didn't got any badge. I live in Sweden. Another person in Sweden got two of those badges for activities performed in Sweden.

What is the mechanism for being rewarded with one of those location based badges and how come some people get them even if they are not in the right location?

Anyone got any ideas?

Today there are three new badges for the Chinese Dragon Boat festival and one got the following criteria: Record an indoor/ outdoor rowing activity on Dragon Boat Festival, June 7, 2019.

An indoor activity doesn't have a location. I did a rowing activity this morning without being awarded with that badge.
I can't see those badges in Garmin Connect so I guess before I see them I can't get them.
Maybe with a Chinese VPN...

I saw user from Taiwan that got two of todays badges so I created an activity in Taiwan and uploaded it to Garmin Connect, but it didn't award me any badge. Maybe it doesn't award badges for uploaded activities... It does for some badges like "100-Mile Ride".

  • Very good suggestion.

    I've changed the sorting.

For "All", they are sorted by limited time first with shortest time left first and then in points order.

If you look at the badges you have earned the sorting is a little bit different. First you see the repeatables, then limited time and then in points order.

The idea is that you should first see the badges you can take.

In the future I might add some custom sorting functions but after fixing the country functions I'm bit tired and need to focus on my real job :-)

  • Amazing, Cheers! 7 days ago I said this:

I'm not at half marathon distances again yet (Started C25K and Garmin Connect on UK Lockdown Monday (24th March)) so Rocket Beans isn't doable for me

I've set my profile to Germany and I'm just gonna start a run on the 10th May and see what happens. Slight smile

  • Did it. Couldn't walk for a week, nor run for 2 weeks after. Would not advise my Couch-to-21k in 7 weeks plan to many people. Back out now though, being slightly more sensible to build up the miles before I attempt another.

     Is your site down temporarily...?

  • Thanks. Site is working now. Sorry for that. I changed the password and thought I checked that everything was up...maybe a cached version fooled me.

  • Has anyone done the "Eid al-Fitr" badge? Where is it located and is it repeating on an annual basis?

  • It has never been public as far as I know. There is no known image for the badge and therefore no badge number so I can check the data for the badge.

There are 5 references to badges in the badges-list.properties file that got no known badges.
