Assigning default gear for individual activities

I just bought a pair of trail running shoes in addition to my road running shoes. I'd like to set up Garmin Connect such that when I choose 'run' on my Fenix 3, my road running shoes are linked and when I choose 'trail run' it knows that I'll be using the trail running shoes.

Currently I can only select 'other' when I choose an activity assigned to my trail running shoes, 'trail running' is not listed as an option under gear settings.

I have the same problem with my road and mountain bike.

    More than 6 years and still no solution... I really don't understand why garmin do not allow to set a specific bike for MTB activities and another bike for road bike activities. Every time I have to change the bike manually and this is annoying

    Just posted on the new ideas page. I see this thread is open for a few years now. sounds like a relatively simple development.

    It would be interesting to have the possibility to use different equipment in the various sports that are monitored. Unfortunately, you can only choose equipment for certain sports such as running, cycling, hiking, walking or otherwise.
    The choice is very limiting.
    Since a different bicycle is used for the various cycling activities; different boots or shoes depending on the various activities of escusionism; skis and winter equipment depending on the chosen winter activity it would be very nice to be able to choose to combine equipment for each sport.

    You can do that today. All activity types support gear and you can add as many gear as you like to each activity.

    What isn't working is setting default gear for other activity types than: Running, Cycling, Hiking, Other, Walking and Swimming.

    My Forerunner supports several different cycling activities, e.g. road cycling, MTB, commuting, indoor, but in Garmin Connect, I can only have one default bike selected. Of course I use different bikes for these different activities. Why can't I select a default gear for each one of them? That would save me a lot of clicks.

    BTW: I also would appreciate sub-gears (tire, chain, ...), that was requested by other people long ago... but apparently not there yet Disappointed

    That's available since years. I do use it all the time. Use the gear category "other" for that purpose. You can assign as many default components as you want.

    OK, I didn't think of that. Thanks. But if I have e.g. 3 sub gears (both tires, chain), I would have to change 3 gears if it's not my default. I'd call that a WORKaround.
