Assigning default gear for individual activities

I just bought a pair of trail running shoes in addition to my road running shoes. I'd like to set up Garmin Connect such that when I choose 'run' on my Fenix 3, my road running shoes are linked and when I choose 'trail run' it knows that I'll be using the trail running shoes.

Currently I can only select 'other' when I choose an activity assigned to my trail running shoes, 'trail running' is not listed as an option under gear settings.

I have the same problem with my road and mountain bike.
  • Thanks Kevin, the problem with these type of 'feature request' forms is that customers feel like their feedback goes into oblivion and the customers never feel heard. A forum / feature request thread where customers can provide feedback and upvote a certain feature request is far more inclusive and helpful for both parties.

  • Dear Garmin,

I would like to track different bikes automatically. For that I can already start different activities like "road cycling" or "eMTB", but currently it is not possible to automatically add a different bike to the specific activity. This would be a perfect feature for the user of multiple bikes...

    thanks, Jahn

  • Completely agree, I have a road bike for road cycling and a gravel bike for gravel cycling - it would be nice to have a default for each type of cycling activities (and I'm sure runners would like a similar setup).

  • I, and almost all runners, use different shoes for tempo, long distance and recovery runs and I would like my watch to ask me which pair of shoes I used when I save the activity. This should also be an option for other activities because I have a few bikes for cycling, etc. the app assumes that I only use one pair of shoes which is silly.

Thanks in advance for your help,

  • I just submitted this idea again, as I did several years ago.  I hope there is a response this time.  thanks.

  • I am also running into this problem and it sounds like a pretty common use case indeed. Did you ever get a status update on your feature request or is there a way (also for me) to view the current state? Thx

  • Having more than one bike or one pair of shoes for different activities is standard.

On the face of it, sounds like a reasonable request. Maybe it's more realistic for cyclists. However, I personally don't use the same pair of shoes every time I run, rotating multiple pairs, even for the same activity type. So, allowing Garmin to decide which shoes I wore based on the activity would not work for me. Therefore, I have no set default. Then I go in and add whatever shoe it was.

is there a way (also for me) to view the current state?

You cannot view the current state of the request. However, you can create your own request here - Share Ideas | Garmin

  •  Do somebody know if Garmin will finally add this simple feature, function, possibility - whatever we call it?

  • There is only cycling option, oh my goodness, this is so stupid!!!

Why would I add Bike to other than cycling, why it's not showing every possible activitt where bike is involved?

Stupid so much, even words can't explain how much.
