Assigning default gear for individual activities

I just bought a pair of trail running shoes in addition to my road running shoes. I'd like to set up Garmin Connect such that when I choose 'run' on my Fenix 3, my road running shoes are linked and when I choose 'trail run' it knows that I'll be using the trail running shoes.

Currently I can only select 'other' when I choose an activity assigned to my trail running shoes, 'trail running' is not listed as an option under gear settings.

I have the same problem with my road and mountain bike.
  • For what it’s worth I submitted a feature  request for this also. I courage everyone to do the same. Remember to be clear and concise so your comment can be categorized easily… they probably don’t  know whether you are flying an airplane or riding a bike. :)

  • I can’t believe we don’t have a solution yet….

  • It would be nice when you can add a standard shoe to a activity.

    Hiking shoes to hiking

    Running shoes to running

Even perhaps different bikes to different kinds of biking

  • So sad that this seemingly simple feature is still not implemented after 9 years of people requesting it. Garmin devices could be so much better if they listened to their customers. Just frustrating Disappointed

  • Hiking shoes to hiking

    Running shoes to running

That's already possible, and as far as I remember, always was.

Even perhaps different bikes to different kinds of biking

Please request it at https://www.garmin.com/en-US/forms/ideas/ to give it bigger chance to be considered by Garmin

  • Yes because running and hiking are 2 different main activities , try automatic assignment on trail run or track run and you are done. same with cycling.

ideas link is not helping, you can write there as much as you can. Total ignoration.

At least Strava understood and did it automaticaly recently.

For garmin apparently morning report and nonsense like that is more important.

  • There are different running activites...so the generic "Running" isn't helpful. There is:

    1. Indoor Running
    2. Obstacle Course Running
    3. Street Running
    4. Track Running
    5. Trail Running
    6. Treadmill Running
    7. Ultra Running
    8. Virtual Running

There are 14 for Cycling. I'd guess the majority of people are have multiple pieces of equipment depending on what they are doing. Personally I have 3 sets of cycling shoes, one for road, one for indoor, and one for mountain biking. So it's a pain point.

  • asked specifically for Hiking and Running. That's possible. Subcategories are not available, which is well known, and the topic of this thread, mentioned hundreds of times here, so I do not think it is necessary explaining it again. That's why I suggested requesting the feature through the form Share Ideas | Garmin, where it has a better change to reach the developers than here, on the forum.

  • I believe that  in all theese years many people used that ideas form to share this same request. It is Garmin that's not listening

  • Guys do be so running specific. The request should simply be "allow default gear for every activity and their subtypes" so everyone can enjoy it.
