Assigning default gear for individual activities

I just bought a pair of trail running shoes in addition to my road running shoes. I'd like to set up Garmin Connect such that when I choose 'run' on my Fenix 3, my road running shoes are linked and when I choose 'trail run' it knows that I'll be using the trail running shoes.

Currently I can only select 'other' when I choose an activity assigned to my trail running shoes, 'trail running' is not listed as an option under gear settings.

I have the same problem with my road and mountain bike.
  • As I wrote, only frequently submitted requests through the "Idea" form have a chance to be seen. Posting to the forum won't help much, since Garmin won't see it.

  • As has been said repeatedly throughout this post, along with that link. I can't imagine this hasn't been a frequently submitted request. Especially with a thread this old and continues to this day. Garmin not interacting with and taking ideas from the forum is another lazy approach.

  • I can't imagine this hasn't been a frequently submitted request.

Perhaps it was submitted frequently, but since it was not implemented yet, it was apparently not frequently enough Wink

  • Exactly, best answer, it is not Garmin fault it is yours.
I submitted this idea x times, my friends too, I wrote to Garmin distributor in our country (they wrote they cannot help), I wrote to beta team of Fenix watches. (No answer, but they were very keen to respond to me back when F6X came out and I helped them testing the ski app freezing).

Sometimes I have a feeling no one in Garmin (management, support, developers) is wearing and using garmin watches.

We have a ton of stupid things in the watches like „morning report“, but useful functions are being ignored.

(Gear assignment, sram axs metrics etc….)

Unfortunately , there is no real alternative for Garmin, else I would be long gone.
The software side kills a great product.

  • We have a ton of stupid things in the watches like „morning report“, but useful functions are being ignored.

Hahaha! I completely agree, but go to the Beta Program forum for Instinct 2, and see the stir that removing the Morning Report created. Garmin tested it in a beta version of I2, but decided no to keep it in the release, because of performance reasons, and the backwash effect it created just among the very limited number of beta testers is nothing comparable with the discussion here.

So I have to repeat, the number of requests for this feature is still too small to change the mind of Garmin, Unfortunately they get many more demands for stupidities like the Morning Report, Apple Health or Google Fit integration, and thousands of others, so useful functions like this one do not get the necessary attention.

  • ...over 7 years ago....

for 7 years no feedback from Garmin support is sad.
as many have already written in this topic, I have also just "shared the idea with garmin". It is unrealistic to hope for a quick response, but should many requests come together it is more likely that this topic is processed with more attention on the part of garmin.

  • At least at Strava someone woke up.
Lets see when Garmin will wake up.

  • Hi Team Garmin,

I am using Garmin 6X for running where i have so many activities to use.

I am Having issue with Gear creation in Shoes (I am using two activities Road Running and Trail running )

But unfortunately in Gear creating there is only one Activity type type  and default activity to allocate should be

    Road Run

    Trail run

and there should be auto allocation to activity section with reference to it

Gear Type 01 - Road Running shoes - auto allocation to Road running activity in case of default

Gear Type 02 - Trail Running shoes - auto allocation to Trail running activity in case of default

Gear Type 03 - Road Running shoes - Not default

Gear Type 04 - Trail Running shoes - Not default

Further i suggest we should have Gear section and edit authority for correct tracking of gear usage.

    Regards
