Assigning default gear for individual activities

I just bought a pair of trail running shoes in addition to my road running shoes. I'd like to set up Garmin Connect such that when I choose 'run' on my Fenix 3, my road running shoes are linked and when I choose 'trail run' it knows that I'll be using the trail running shoes.

Currently I can only select 'other' when I choose an activity assigned to my trail running shoes, 'trail running' is not listed as an option under gear settings.

I have the same problem with my road and mountain bike.
  • Agree with all here - this is surprisingly poor form from Garmin considering how amazing their fitness devices + connect is in general. Please fix Garmin!

  • My major workout is running. I run either outside offroad (trail running), indoor (treadmill) or just normal running on paved roads outside. I use different running shoes for these activities (I have trail runners for offroad and another pair for the treadmill), however Garmin Connect will only have one running activity assigned to my gear (shoes) which will invlude all the types of running. That messes up the whole mileage count of my assigned gear.

Development team, could you please split up these activities to resolve this issue? Thank you!

  • "Thank You. Your idea has been submitted to Garmin. We appreciate your feedback"

    and now, we wait.

  • Hi guys.

As I can see, I'm not the only one who tries to make sense of Garmin Connect Apps on my PC.

A smartphone is not the right tool to try to figure out what GC can provide to us so PC is the way, at least, for me.

    I have the same problem.

I have an InDoor bike MekBelt SM36 and a Avalanche GT 3.0 Mountain Bike.

Both are for cycling and I can only have one as default.

My shoes are Nike AirMax for Floor activities (Strength and Cardio/HIIT) and SIDI Eagle 10 for my bikes.

I could add Shimano pedals with Cleats.

    Garneau Air Gel Padded Gloves.

    Diadora Pro Race 2 Helmet.

Both are on "Others" for cycling and only one can be default.

So what does it mean ?

Does it mean that when I start to ride my bike in my home I switch default gear to my InDoor Bike ?

So all next trainings will be associated with my indoor bike ?

Same for "Others" but I'm using them both at the same time (outside).

So, is it worth it to take (make) time to enter all our gears ?

And does it help anything in our training ?

As a Value-Added item, what is worth using gears in GC ?

    Thanks guys.

  • For bikes you get mileage statistics, might help with maintenance. For shoes I guess you can see how long they took until they got worn down, could influence the decision about whats a good brand...

I track 2 sets of inline skating wheels, just for fun, of course in the other category and with adding them manually, because this sport is not offered in the gear section. Also got my bike in it, but I need to manually add my work route to the mileage because I'm not tracking that daily.

With currently available settings if you have multiple gears, then add them without setting defaults and after each activity assign used gear to it (on full activity's page). If make just some activities, then assign manually. If you make a lot, you can write a script.

And as above, it shows how long a gear lasts. Though, for shoes it's usually quite similar, but noting usage of a least few pairs may help. It's different how long shoes give their features and how long are usable. May depend how you use them. And with entered mileage, you will know when shoes are near to replace.

  • 6y ago, and still nothing. Come on Garmin, this is elementar.

  • people are submitting this simple request apparently for years already.
How difficult can it be to bring a full list of activities to choose from. If you can bring 5, what is the problem to bring 15.
It is ridiculous to wait and request a basic logical feature like this for years.

Please, looks like submitting ideas is apparently not working. Don’t you have some internal ways to submit product enhancements?
In our company, for our software we surely have.

This super simple feature would improve usability and user experience with garmin connect in a massive way.

    Please try.
    Thx a lot

    T.

  • Has this ever been resolved? I would like to automatically add shoes for the treadmill and different shoes for running outside.
