Unable to Sync after update to IOS 13.1.3

I have a Garmin Edge Explore and after upgrading my iPhone to ios 13.1.3 the Garmin is not automatically uploading to Garmin Connect anymore. Also manual upload does not work properly.

I have set the settings of the iPhone to the suggested settings but nothing works.

Garmin Connect app shows a green bullet to indicate it is connected to Edge Explore, but trying to sync is resulting in a red triangle indicating an error.

I use an iPhone X with ios 13.1.3

The Garmin Explore is on software version 4.24.0.17

    • This ain’t good for a device which is so expensive and it seems like it the garmin connect app rather than the device

    Same issue

Normal sync (no activity) worked first but now after the first activity same issue than before. What a crap. Livetrack broken after 5 km. It was running good for weeks but on my first marathon (20.10 ) it was broken alter 2 km and syncing off the activity was still a problem with the laptop hours later ....

I'm such a fool years ago I bought a EPIX which never worked well (really never) Garmin simply cut the development ...

Now years later the same for a couple of devices. What is the problem? Weeks (Not days) are passing an nothing happens. Why is there no new version available (I have a app for E-Mobility which was updated daily for 7 days in a row (which is although not good sign for development) but shows that this is not a problem with the App Store and the soooo problematic process to get the app into the store.

  • FWIW, I spoke to a few colleagues in my run club this evening and apparently bluetooth is now totally broken for Strava and people running with Apple watches. Strava has actually apparently given up and removed the bluetooth functionality. This obviously suggests that this problem is probably a lot deeper and probably rests with some new Apple security protocol.

I have an awful feeling we might be waiting a while for this one to be resolved.

It will be interesting to see if this is an issue for people running with Suunto and Polar watches as well, especially as these are the two main brands which compete with Garmin.

  • You’re conflating two separate issues to be honest.

Strava’s decision isn’t about, or limited to, Apple devices or the new security protocols so doesn’t “obviously suggest” anything of the sort. They’ve withdrawn connection from ALL sensors, basically telling people to record activities with other apps (eg iSmoothrun for the Apple Watch) and feed Strava the data. See here for more: www.dcrainmaker.com/.../strava-app-sensor-support-is-now-dead-my-last-workout-taking-out-the-trash.html

  • Fair enough. I’ve not read up on the Strava issues as I manually move data there using RunGap.

  • Funny how my FormSwim Goggles and Runscribe+ footpods have absolutely no issue.  They are bluetooth and have apps with all kinds detailed stats.

    This is on Garmin.

Adding my name to the list of failed users. IOS 13.1.3 with Garmin Edge will not sync but does sync on macbook

  • Seems to have done it? At least it finishes the sync now with a green circle. Thanks
