Garmin Connect prompts me to setup Vivosmart 4 every time I open the app

Every time I open my Garmin Connect app it congratulates me on buying a Vivosmart 4 and prompts me to set it up. I’ve been using a Vivosmart 4 since October. Its been working fine. Nothing has changed in my setup except 3 days ago Garmin Connect App updated.

I have tried to go through the setup on my Vivosmart 4 again to see if that would make the prompts disappear, but the next time I open the app it wants me to setup the Vivosmart 4 again. I also own a Fenix 5s and an Edge 1030 and both of those are fine. They are not getting prompted to setup again.

I wouldn’t mind since it is working in every other way, but each time I open the app I must click through two setup screens to get to my data. Anyone know how to fix this? Or is it going to take an update to the app?

    It also worked perfectly until last GC update, I can bypass the initial setup or do it at every start of GC the result is the same, and the device got finally synced, so not that's bad, just a little bit annoying.

    Oops I was wrong, the sync is only partial...

    The Vivosmart 4 works perfectly using Garmin Express under Windows.
  • Today there is new behaviour: the app crashes right after initializing. Time after time.

    Update: reboot helped only the first time. After that: crashes again.
    Then deleted and reinstalled Garmin Connect app: stopped crashing. For now.

    I wore mine last night to track sleep. This morning, I performed a sync and opened Garmin Express to view data. I got a message that there was a new version so I installed it and now it's saying "Pulse Ox is on, please check back tomorrow to view your data" and the mobile app says no Pulse Ox data available at all. Sleep time and movement both recorded. And still no watch face displaying. I don't know why no one else has this issue but me, so maybe I do need a new device....
  • My wife and i are both having the same start up vivosmart 4 issue since the last app update. Today my wife, who updated the app a couple of days before me also starting having the issue where the app closes / crashes before it has fully started up. Try to chat to Garmin - but no response. Also agree this is very clearly a software issue with the app update. Come on Garmin - at least acknowledge this issue by replying.

    +1 I'm having the same issue. Iphone 7, Garmin Connect 4.16.0.17. Vivosmart 4. Every time I open the app the device requires the 5 step setup. Very annoying..

    Mine is now actually requesting the set-upon opening the app AND after going through the set-up steps, it starts over again with the set-up. And the set-up will even pop up randomly while I'm using the app to view data. :mad:

    And today it didn't track my run. I'm over this thing. If Garmin isn't going to admit the app has bugs and fix them, there's no reason to wear the device. It is completely useless to me now.
  • Just had contact via chat with Garmin support. It is a known issue and there is a ticket open. I will be added to this ticket and will be updated when a solution has been given.
