Livetrack not working - LiveTrack Failed

Lately livetrack stop working... The setup in Garmin Connect Mobile is correct. When I start an activity on my Edge 1030 I do not get the message Livetrack started but I can see the title pictogram in showing on the screen, livetrack is active on GCM, but no SMS and/email are sent. I'am on IOS 12.1.2. Help is welcomed.
  • Not fully tested on ride yet, but it appears that you have to have Garmin Connect open on iPhone when you click start on Garmin Edge 1030 for the Auto Start to send emails!!! This has changed since previous version. Others reporting similar with Incident Detection being disabled (no access to contacts) if Garmin Connect not open when starting Garmin. If app on iPhone not used for a while and not open it does not work.
  • Livetrack stopped working recently. I am using a FR935, which has worked flawlessly with GCM up until the last couple weeks. Now as soon as I start an activity, my device says “Livetrack Failed”.
I have recently been notified that on my 935 that the software has updated, but GCM has not been updated

Just waisted an hour of my life trying to work out which conditions allow Live Track Auto Start to send emails and when it does not, and now I am more confused than ever. It sent an email on first test of Live Track Auto Start on Edge 1030. I then tried with GC app closed down on iPhone, it did not send emails (even though Edge 1030 said Live Track Started). I tried again with GC app open on iPhone but still did not send emails, 2 more tests and still did not send emails.

I GIVE UP, this used to work well for me for months and now broken, I point the finger at the GC app because the Garmin Edge 1030 reports Live Track start/stop correctly.

Life is too short to keep troubleshooting Garmin bugs!!! So I am going to bin Live Track (which sucks all the iPhone battery anyway) and just share my location on the iPhone - which does what it says on the tin and just works!

LiveTrack feature is very important to me especially when running or mtbiking alone which is most of the time. Going out into the woods is NOT as safe as it was if ... I just think about the possibility that something could go wrong ????. LT used to work flawlessly and for many of us this feature is a must. Is it really that hard to fix it?
  • Edge 1000/ iPhone SE / iOS 12.1.4 (and, previously, 12.1.3) / Connect 4.15.1 (and, previously, 4.15). Livetrack stopped working for me with the 4.15 update - I use auto start (or try to). No emails sent, and a range of conditions on the phone / GPS - sometimes Livetrack failed messages, sometimes Livetrack in progress, sometimes Livetrack started just as I've ended a ride...you name it.

Anyway, for the past few rides I've loaded Connect onto my Android work phone, which - whilst not working perfectly - is back to the maybe 75% success rate it's always achieved. As Susi says, Garmin have had the last money they'll ever be getting from me. I've been using various Garmins for over ten years, with nothing but software issues for the whole of that time. My patience has now gone, and whereas there once were not many other options, they now have some strong competition. Enough is enough.
  • Like others here Live track worked fine until the connect mobile software update that wants to sync contacts with your phone. I've spent some time trying to figure out circumstances when Livetrack works and when it doesn't.

From my efforts I've determined that if i have my iPhone on the Livetrack page of connect mobile.... Livetrack starts. If i just press go on my edge 520 (like i used to) it doesn't... Livetrack failed.

I put a ticket into Garmin last week and the advice is to factory reset the 520 edge and also remove the connect mobile app, reload and start again by adding your devices.
Like most of us I've got my edge settings how i like them and its a complex beast so i wont remember everything I've done.

I think i'll just start the edge when i the Livetrack page. A pain but if that's what it takes.
  • I think Garmin has been slightly worse the last six months when it comes to bugs. This might be the nail in the coffin for my Garmin devices. Impossible to start live track (and a Edge 1030 that randomly hangs when on longer rides), and more bugs on the Edge might end my 25yo relation with Garmin.

I am sad to say that live track is not working for me either. I have the 645Music. at first i didn't see the live track failed screen pop up on my watch. i just saw that it had started. but like others, i think the failed notification occurs within about 30 sec of starting. This is also a bit concern for me. I tried to use this as my safety back up this past weekend. i was in a new location, running on roads i have never been on in the country. I set up live track and told my emergency contact that she would get an email and that she could follow me. fortunately she did not freak out when she found out she had no idea where i was and did not panic when i decided to go longer than planned. I missed that "failed" notification so i thought i was all set. i got the same failed notification today when i ran as well.

Interesting that Garmin hasn’t solved anything in almost a month, no replies...nothing. And the problem is quite important...
  • Just changed from android to an iPhone and livetrack stopped working with my 1030.

To get my livetrack working i had to use the “invite contacts” on all the email address on my contacts as it was working on my parents email address but no others and theirs was the only address i had initially invited.

I need to test incident detection to make sure it still works.

Poor app development and inadequate testing prior to release.
