Steps not syncing properly to Connect app

Pretty much as the title says, my watch is showing total steps for the day and the app is showing a few thousand less when I sync. It’s been happening last few days, and unless I can complete a 5k in less than 2000 steps im pretty sure its not right?

I have tried reinstalling the app on my phone but to no avail, anyone any ideas?
  • Check you date and time sync with the dataprovider. When it is out of sync it will keep on overwriting previous sync data which results in losses. You will see strange graphs in bodybattery too

    Just saw there was an app update, downloaded it, turned phone off and on - it worked and the sync is now correct! Yay!!!

  • Hi Everyone, sorry I didn't ever get back about my issues. There was another thread and a lovely user helped me out. I connected my watch to my computer via the cable and logged into Garmin express. I unsynced the watch from Garmin Express and synced it again. I also logged out of Garmin Express and logged back in. 

    That seemed to make it work. Basically my online profile with the Garmin server was not seeing/syncing my profile on my phone. I also noticed on my phone in the Garmin Connect app, if your profile picture isn't the same as your profile then your profile isn't syncing correctly. I also noticed my name on the profile was a bunch of letters and numbers. After it synced proerly

    On Facebook, there was a lady who had the same problem. I told her to change her avatar picture on Garmin Connect app on her phone. That seemed to work. It seemed to talk to the Garmin Server again and reset itself. 

    I hope that helps everyone!

  • Thank you. This worked exactly as you described. Updated my photo in the app and magically all the correct data came through. It's been driving me crazy for weeks. Cheers!

  • Unfortunately no. My Garmin Connect app is playing up again.  I'm still getting a discrepancy in MY DAY steps and the Step Details. I'm usually 100-500 steps off. It seemed to me working after i last posted on here.I did everything I did a year ago and I'm still can't get the steps to sync properly. I started a you tube channel and will post a screen recording every few days to show Garmin and other people.  How they cannot fix this problem is beyond me.

    The syncing of steps happens in two stages. The first one, is the real-time live data transfer from the watch to the app. It is displayed on the main screen MyDay, but it is not stored into your Garmin Connect account, and hence not displayed on the screen with the Steps details. That screen only shows what was already synced and uploaded to your Garmin Connect account on their servers.

    So if you sync the watch, and there is no sync error, the values will be identical, but in the meantime there may be indeed a difference.

  • You don't understand this is happening daily.  In go to bed with 12500 steps and next day it says 12300.

    I sync the watch numerous times before bed (fyi in in bed and the watch is not on my wrist.  Its sitting stationary). Have also tried via the garmin express app. I took all your previous advice and have applied them. I'm still losing steps. 

    How can a server fu*k up so badly?? Does it have bad lag time?? Seriously it should be what you have in My Day should show up in steps once you sync.

    Also shouldn't the servers eventually update to the watch steps when a new day starts??

    Verify the Upload Time Zone setting in your Garmin Connect Web settings (connect.garmin.com/.../settings).
