Duplicate entries in Apple Health

I am on iOS 11 with the latest version of Garmin Connect. When looking in Apple Health I see lots of duplicate entries (same time and duration) from Garmin Connect in my activities. A quick Google shows people were having this issue back in 2015 but I've not seen any simple solution to stop it from happening and it is becoming more and more irritating.

I know Apple Health may not be the best application but I use it as a central repository.

Does anyone have a simple solution for this (other than buying an Apple Watch and using a Wahoo Tickr with the watch).

thanks

Alex

  • I'm not sure. They might have seen the message-flood, before they replied to me. I sent them a link to this forum, so perhaps this helped too.

The hopeful reply came via their Munich customer support team.
I think that me contacting them in German within Europe might've helped our chances of success.

  • I recv'd an email from Garmin support stating that the issue is resolved...with the newest update to GC..  v4.41,

It is available for download.  I haven't tried it yet, but will.

  • A user on reddit says it's fixed

  • No, it's not. Watch shows I have a distance of 6.99kms and it logged in Apple Health 12.9kms. And it's 10AM. It's going to get much worse by the end of the day.

Also, it stopped reading weight from Apple Health (you want me to buy the Index, right?).

Active calories are also doubled. I have 525 in Garmin Connect and 1013 logged in Apple Health.

  • I just got the message form Garmin Support (below). Didn't check yet if it's really works.

    "Hello,

I am reaching out to you in regards to a case you have submitted with Garmin Product Support; specifically, where duplicate activities are being sent from Garmin Connect to Apple Health.

I am pleased to let you know this is now resolved - version 4.41 of the Garmin Connect app is now available for download in the app store. Please update your app to this version.

Should you have any questions or issues, please let our Support Team know and we will gladly assist.

    Have a great day!

    Thank you for choosing Garmin"

  • I've just downloaded the update and it appears to work for me :-)

It even cleaned up my previous entires and removed the duplicates there.

  • It is definitely not fixed.

Take "Walked/Run distance" as an example.

Garmin Connect now inserts a single entry with a total distance for the whole day in a single moment (the exact date/time the last sync occurred).

This is the wrong way to insert data. You need to specify a date/time range (from 17:08:26 to 17:14:52) so that it overrides lower quantities if there's a collision.

Garmin connect just places all the distance in a single second of the day, so if you leave the iPhone as secondary data input  source (as it should be if for example the watch is charging and the iPhone is in the pocket) you'll get bot the iPhone distance -and- the Garmin one.

So once again, not fixed and already warned Garmin on this forum about time ranges a long time ago.

I would have preferred the version where Garmin didn't want to provide good data by design to prevent brand switching. Come one, it's not difficult to do that right.

This has been going on all along! And it's the same for active calories.

  • Hey friends, (just joining this insanity)

So, what happens now is, whenever there is a secondary data input (the phone itself is the one you cannot avoid since it can't be turned off when editing data sources) GC simply add its data to it...smh

Walking and running distance is the immediately affected field, I think. Although, others  (like calories) can be affected if you're doing workouts not included in the watch activities (e.g. ab workouts in other apps), while wearing the watch (which of course adds active calories data during that time)

Well, here go another six years to solve this.
