Calories logged in edge 540 not included in total calories (main device is Fenix 7s)

Hi,

This is a duplicate, i post anyways because Garmin are not responding for more than a year now.

Calories logged in my edge 540 are not included in total active calories. my main device is a Fenix 7s.

Is there a fix or a workaround? Or should I just switch to coros or wahoo?

More than 1k worth of Garmin stuff to get this subpart software and utter refusal to fix the issues. I think this is unreasonable given the prices they ask for.

Do you wear your watch during riding with your Edge?

My main device is a Epix 2. For cycling I use a Edge840. During riding my bike I don`t wear my Epix.

Calories are looged without any issues on Connect and are duplicated to the watch.

I would suggest to log a ticket with Garmin Support.

I have more or less the same setup like yours and it works without any issues.

When cycling, is the Epix on or off?

When I go cycling I take off my Epix, but leave it on. It just sits on my desk.

I turn on my Edge and once I'm finished I save my activity. Afterwards I wear my Epix again.

And I have really done nothing special. I bought the Edge some months ago, just added it to my connect account and as far I as I can see it worked from day 1 like this (at least with regards to calorie counting). Epix is my primary device and TrueUp is turned on.

I had an Edge 530 before and had the same results.

Update:

Garmin France contacted me, here's their answer:

"You need to sync your devices to Garmin connect",

Yes it's a one line answer, that is certainly not a solution.

Tbh, this is the last straw, beside the issues I already have on the fenix (horrible voice navigation that cannot be disabled), here's another bug, and their answer is basically calling me stupid, like I did not sync my device...

Unbelievable.

As far as I could see, they do not have the same problem. You claim you do not get the Calories from Edge 840 even if you do not wear the watch during the entire time of the activity. Others got the Calories from Edge overwritten by the Calories from the Primary Wearable Device, only if they wear it simultaneously (which is in fact the way it is designed to work at the latest generation of devices).

If you do not get the Calories from Edge even when not wearing any Primary Wearable Device, then there might be an account-device mismatch. I recommend to Remove and Add a Device From the Garmin Connect App | Garmin Customer Support (do it for both devices), then record a test activity without wearing the watch, sync, and see whether it helped. If not, then have a look at the Troubleshooting guide for (some) data missing after syncing for some more tips.

"Then this evening I do a 3 hour bike ride 1500 calories burned (1040 + power meter) and all the calories are not counted in garmin and automatically subtracted from my fitness pal (so for garmin and my fitness pal I burned 0 calories for a 3 hour ride) " -> Exactly my case

I don't know why you say they don't have the same issue...

Because their values were overwritten by lower values from the watch (Primary Wearable Device / PWD). That's the way the recent devices with Unified Training Status are designed to work. However, you claim you did not wear your watch at all, hence it is a different case, because the valued from Edge could not be overridden by the PWD. That's why I suggested a solution more appropriate for your case. Try it, and let us know whether it helped.
