'Log Calories in MFP' button opens MyFitnessPal website in a browser and not the App

Yesterday for no apparent reason the 'Log Calories in MFP' button opens MyFitnessPal website in a browser and not the MyFitnessPal App as it has always done previously.

I have made no changes to either account credentials.

Here's what I've tried to resolve it:

  1. I disconnected the two accounts and reconnected -no change.
  2. I uninstalled and reinstalled the MFP app - no change
  3. I uninstalled the reinstalled the Garmin Connect app - no change
  4. I have compared the permissions for both apps on my Wife's phone (we have identical phones) and they are the same.

Any data I enter into the MFP app is synced and reflected in the Garmin Connect app but no matter what I do I can't get the MFP app to launch when I click 'Log Calories in MFP' button.

In addition to this when I am directed to the MFP website to log calories  I'm always taken to the same page which is the shared food diary of a person I've never heard of and not my own. Fortunately for this person her diary is marked as private so I'm denied access.

Has anybody else experienced this and if so do you have a solution please

  • The app.link that GC uses could, if MFP wanted to, open the MFP app at the home page, where all the ads are. It's just shoddy coding from MFP who didn't really do the test part of their CI/CD properly, otherwise they'd never have rolled this update out. MFP appears to rely on AWS, so I assume they are using DevOps processes for software development (sorry for the IT digression there)

  • I just spent an hour doing everything you did before finding your post..... its inconvenient and a pain in the ass to try inputting in this mini site ...I want my ap back connected .....if not ANYONE have any better aps than my fitness pal that will link ?????

  • I still do not understand why you guys simply do not use the MFP app or widget to enter the calories, instead of fighting with the website. At least in the time being untill MFP fixes their app. Or if you want it as comfortable as before, just downgrade the MFP app to the rpevious version, exactly as  did.

  • I'm having very similar issues and it happened after I updated both apps, Garmin connect and MFP. When I'm in the Connect app and

  • I'm having similar issues since I updated both apps on my android phone. Everything worked perfectly before, all data was exchanged between both apps seamlessly. Now when I try to enter my calories from Connect it takes me to MFP web page instead of the app and it tells me that the user food diary is private, although it shows that I am logged on but all values are zero. From the MFP app, when I try to link it to Garmin connect to record my steps, activities, etc. It sends me to the connect website and will not let  link the two apps together. My wife is having the same issues on her android phone. Garmin please fix this issue!

  • Same problem for me and my wife

  • Same problem for me and my wife

Our workaround for the moment is to lauch MyFitnessPal App ourselves and not via Garmin Connect

    Yes it's annoying

  • Same problem here.... Tried the same resolutions... didn't work for me either. I'm on a Samsung Galaxy Note 10+

  • i opened a ticket at myfitnesspal (Premium) because this happens since the FitnessPal Android Update, but they are telling me it is a Garmin Problem.

But the Garmin Connect Android Update comes 2 days earlier and with this Update i haven't had any problem, it started clearly after the FP Update, but they do not want to admit it

as i said, no Garmin Connect issue, yesterday i received an Android Update of MyFitnessPal and it works again, anyway Support of MFP told me it is a Garmin issue which I don't believe so!
