Connect App Permanently running in background - how to stop?

Posted on main forum but just found this place, so might be a better placedt here

I've a HTC 10
Permanently have a notification displayed that Connect is running in the background
How do I stop it from running in the background?
I don't need it to, it doesn't sync to anything.
I just look at it every now and again

  • What version of android? On 8 there is an option "Optimize battery usage" which if enabled, should stop the service from running.
  • be aware if you do not have the connect app running in the background there are things that won't work (eg all widgets that depend on internet requests such as the weather widget won't work)
  • I've a HTC 10

Me also got the same phone in the past and I somehow made it to disappear.
I think you have to swipe the Notification to the left sight, so a gear appears, where you can disable this information. If I remember right :o

as i said, i don't need it to run, i don't care about widgets, just want the app to review my activities which i record on computer through my ant+ stick. i don't have any bluetooth devices or anything to sync with my phone.

yea i'm on android 8 alright

maybe it was since it upgraded to that?

can't seem to find the optimise battery usage though :(
  • i've just noticed the app was last updated on 6th december
this is roughly when the issue started
it is to do with the version of the app and the updated changes
  • stevieob HerrRiebmann For the HTC 10 on android 8 I found these directions on the HTC web site - ">Disabling an app">Disabling an app. On my phone it consumes very little battery while running in the background, so you might want to check and see how much battery it is really using.

On my phone (Samsung Galaxy S9+) it is different: Settings -> Apps -> Connect -> Force Stop -> Battery -> Optimize Battery Usage -> toggle on Connect
  • problem with disabling the app is that it disappears from my list of apps. may as well delete it altogether as you cannot use it if you disable it.
  • Did you find a solution this?
I've just moved from an iPhone to Android.  I'm only half a day in to using my new android phone and I'm pretty frustrated how Garmin Connect works on Android.

I don't use any smart notifications of any sort on my Fenix watch. Nor weather updates.  The only time the watch utilised Bluetooth was when synced the watch with Garmin Connect on the phone. And that was only when I manually started the app.
Otherwise the phone and watch didn't talk to each other.

But now on Android, Garmin Connect constantly wants to talk to the watch and I keep getting low battery warnings from my phone. (phone currently has low battery)
