Huawei phones not working with Garmin Connect

Is Garmin actively working towards a solution for Huawei phone users? Have there been any updates on this issue? I bought a Vivoactive 3 and while it is a great smartwach for running, it is mostly useless if I cannot reliably pair it or use it with my phone. Is there an ETA or some news regarding when this problem will be fixed or should I return it and buy something else?

I have a Fenix 5 and a Huawei P9 lite and have been super frustrated with this for a year now, I was either buying a new watch or new phone. Both products are great and im sure have super smart people working for them so why they can find a solution together is crazy.

The bluetooth signal is disrupted by the Wifi, cellar connection, location services all working at the same time.

Two days ago i found a 100% working solution.

1: Uninstall Garmin connect latest version seems to be more problematic
2: Download Garmin connect version 3.22 and install, https://www.apk4fun.com/apk/174557/
3: Switch off wifi, leave cellular data connection On
    4: Location services On
    5: Blue tooth Off
6 Open settings/location services and leave this minimized (this will be toggled off as soon as you have paired to the watch with the code).
    7: Run Garmin Connect
8: Select Fenix 5 from the list
9: You will be prompted to switch on bluetooth from inside the app, switch it on, wait for the paring code
10: At this point toggle to the location services window and switch it off, Its a bit tricky the code will reappear a few times then will stay on the screen longer.
11: The pairing installation will continue.

Once its complete, do the following
Only used cellular connection, the connection is lost if you switch on Wifi and or Location services.
Sometimes if you need to reconnect, switch off bluetooth in settings, open Garmin connect and switch it on in the app you will see a red icon next to the watch picture, a blur tooth icon appers just click on it.
Switch off auto update in Google play so it doesn't update to the latest version.

    I hope this helps.

I have Mate 10 Pro, and I do not have any problems with my Garmin 5. Perhaps it should be checked whether the mobile phone software is shutting down the Connect app. On my cellphone, the setting is in: Settings -- Battery -- Launch, and then set to: "Manage manually" for Connect app.

    Hi,
I have the mate 10 pro too and Garmin 235. The problem is that the garmin sync only when the app "Connect" is running. Do you have the same issue?

Nice generalization about Hauwei phones. I have no issues with my Huawei P8 - what model are you having issues with.

I have a brand new Huawei Honor 6x, absolutely will not pair with Garmin Connect unless I uninstall Google Play Services and reboot. I can pair it to the phone, no problem, but not to the app. The phone pairs with everything else via Bluetooth that I have tried, but not Connect.

Bumping this as the update has not made its way through and people are asking about it in the forums.
  • Issue solved with firmware 7.93beta for fenix 5x.
Connection between huawei p8lite and fenix 5x is now stable with gps activated too.
  • I don't have a Huawei phone, but I experiencing connection issues with my Galaxy S8 Active and Fenix 5X. I am constantly losing a connection and none of the smart features are reliable enough to work 100%.

Forerunner 235 and Huawei P10 Lite is flakey as hell. Google Play Services keeps breaking it.
  • Have you installed the new v7.61 beta firmware yet to test whether it actually remediates the issue?

    Hi,
I had the same problem, with a forerunner 230 but with Garmin Connect App running ,going in
Settings -- Battery -- Launch, and then set Connect to: "Manage manually" plus keep all the settings on in “Manage manually” menu
You can close the Garmin App and now the Forerunner 230 seems to keep the bluethoot active .

    Hope this help

I have the same problem. I think it is OREO - android 8. I have MATE 10 pro and FR935 my wife has VA3 and PIXEL 2 and Garmin connect when not in use goes out and the watch disconnects. Annoying as hell. I think Google has to fix somethings and Garmin too.
