Huawei phones not working with Garmin Connect

Is Garmin actively working towards a solution for Huawei phone users? Have there been any updates on this issue? I bought a Vivoactive 3 and while it is a great smartwach for running, it is mostly useless if I cannot reliably pair it or use it with my phone. Is there an ETA or some news regarding when this problem will be fixed or should I return it and buy something else?
  • I have Mate 10 Pro, and I do not have any problems with my Garmin 5. Perhaps it should be checked whether the mobile phone software is shutting down the Connect app. On my cellphone, the setting is in: Settings -- Battery -- Launch, and then set to: "Manage manually" for Connect app.ciq.forums.garmin.com/.../1289036.png
  • Same problem.

    SOLUTION:

The solution for me is always toremove updates for Google Play Services.

That will get my Forerunner 235 syncing with my Huawei P10 Lite again. However, then I get sign-in problems with the Play Store, which I eventually can resolve.

But the syncing problem will return at a later date most likely!

I have created a thread for this, that hopefully Garmin will notice.

Having to remove updates from google play services every time I want to sync is not a good solution. Additionally, the problem that I have is that I cannot even get the initial pairing working, with or without google services updates, nor with the wifi/location/data sequence that people have suggested otherwise. It sucks but it seems that I'll have to return the VA3 or get another phone.

While working, the old Google Play services version is absurd. Sure, i will happily trade in all updates to my phone and application because Garmin can't be bothered to keep up with libraries. Oh, and basically any Google app doesn't work without updated Google Play Services. This is going on for a while now and i will definitely voice this to anyone considering a Garmin device. Uncertainty if my expensive smart watch will break on a future os update is outright just the worst selling point. They know this problem, they choose not to fix it for months now.

Garmin is aware of an issue with Huawei model phones where Garmin devices will not pair with our mobile apps. Huawei Engineering has identified the solution to the problem which will require a software update to the phone's operating system. We have requested an expedited release of this fix, but at this time we do not have a commitment from Huawei as to when this fix will become available. (last updated on 01/08/2018)

For me is not true that problem is Huawei. Not of all model have the same software. And why before the Garmin update of November the Huawei device runs? It seems that Garmin have not idea how it's the problem.. I hope I mistake myself..

i had hoped that this would having been sorted by now, as i have had the problem for a few months, but reading this it seems that the problems had been going on for much longer. think it might be time to move away fro Garmin to another brand that are actually interested in fixing the problems. :-(

Sorry, but saying this, means that Garmin stopped to find a solution for a big Huawei devices problem? Garmin now waits only that Huawei resolves? Please answer.. I bought a vivoactive 3 in the end of november and I have not yet pair the watch with my p8 lite 2017.. It's really irritating.
  • a big Huawei devices problem

Go and kick Huawei into their butt. EMUI has always been a pain, concerning RAM and energy management.

To my surprise, my VA3 firmware 1.90 had no issues with BT pairing to my Mate 10 (stock ROM Dec. 2017). But the notifications are not coming in properly, because EMUI kills every and each process in RAM and prevents restarting. No issues with IOS 11.2, Moto Z (Android 7), HTC (Android 8). Reconnection seems to work fine since GCM Android app 4.2
  • I am using Garmin Connect on my Huawei Mate 10 Lite without any issues. I sync's perfectly fine with my Forerunner 735XT
