Daily step count doesn't match the stats count

Hi, my daily step count on my watch says 10,004 and yet in the stats it says 5,087. The time on the watch is set to Auto, I've reset the app and the watch and the entries are still incompatible. I see there LOTS of complaints about this already, but no solutions. Can you help?

I have the same problem. Very frustrating when you achieve your target and the next day it’s reduced!

Garmin need to respond to this with a solution , I can see multiple posts re this issue going back years. I hope there is a solution or I’ll be binning the garmin.
