Garmin Express for mac freezes downloading map

Former Member

My garmin express freezes at around 12% trying to download map update for my Gamin 2597.
The CPU starts running really hot on the computer, and I then have to Force quit the garmin express.
I have the latest Garmin Express software. I have also tried 2 different computers, a macbook pro and an imac, and both just freeze at around 12% download.
Cheers

    Same BIG problem

    Hi,

I've got the same problem. Trying to update to 2015.40 since saturday, that's a nightmare ! CPUs are overheating for nothing... Computers are mobilized for nothing...

Two computers -> iMac 2011 and MacBook 2008 with Yosemite 10.10.2, Garmin Express 3.2.29.0

GPS item -> nüvi 3597 and Lifetime MapUpdate

Whatever Mac I use, it freezes by itself. The downloading rate is decreasing minutes by minutes to reach 1 kb/s !!!

Why don't the Garmin website send me Garmin Express 4 ?

I'm very disappointed with Garmin softwares... Hoping there'll be quickly a solution.

    Thanks
    Seb

Ok and what about the problem that the download simply stalls without CPU or other system resources peaking ?
  • [QUOTE=Seb Dorven;547436]Hi,
Why don't the Garmin website send me Garmin Express 4 ?

    Current version is 4.0.11.0.
I can send you a copy of the .dmg.

Thanks a lot. I succeeded to download version 4... after deleting hidden files in the Garmin directories ! That's not frequent on a Mac to have to do such DIY stuff !
I transferred my old 2014 maps on the SD Card, and now I'm waiting for the end of the update. At this moment 89,7% is done... I really hope it'll reach the end without problem.

OMG ! It's OK now. Server download rates were really low but it was also a question of empty space in the nüvi...

I hope the next version of GE will be able to manage the download on the computer BEFORE transferring it to the SD Card or the nüvi itself (depending on which have more empty space on it).

Well Albert I have done exactly that; had an automated response acknowledging receipt, and since then a big fat nothing! NOT GOOD ENOUGH.

  • I too can't update my maps on my BMW Navigator IV/Zumo 660. I've downloaded the latest version of Garmin Express for MAC and after I start the map download process the process stops after about 20 minutes, and then nothing happens even if I let the computer and Garmin Express run all night. This is very frustrating!

I'm now trying to uninstall/reinstall Garmin Express to see if that works.

    Any other suggestions?

After groping around the Forum looking for a solution and finding this Thread it seems like map update problems are a recurring problem with Garmin Express. Downloading map update should be a simple! AND, reliable too.

  • Ensure your Mac isn't shutting the USB ports down. If on WiFi try cabling direct to modem/router.
