Garmin Express for mac freezes downloading map

My garmin express freezes at around 12% trying to download map update for my Gamin 2597.
The CPU starts running really hot on the computer, and I then have to Force quit the garmin express.
I have the latest Garmin Express software. I have also tried 2 different computers, a macbook pro and an imac, and both just freeze at around 12% download.

OK, thanks. Will try to figure out how to check the USB Ports and keep them from shutting down. And, I'll see if I can find a cable and connect it to a modem/router and see if that works.

Geez, the more I use this stuff the more complicated it becomes! I regularly update my worldwide Jeppeson aeronautical charts and thousands of pages of company manuals on my work laptop with the mere click of a button . . . the updates are easy, routine and quick. I don't understand the philosophy behind Garmin's update process. But I guess that's a topic for another thread.

Well it generally is easy, for the last few years I've simply updated my 3 GPS via Express without issue but with so many different PCs using various OS and numerous different programs installed etc etc the odd few occasionally baulk ... you're unfortunately one of the unlucky ones.
