Garmin Express for mac freezes downloading map

My garmin express freezes at around 12% trying to download map update for my Gamin 2597.
The CPU starts running really hot on the computer, and I then have to Force quit the garmin express.
I have the latest Garmin Express software. I have also tried 2 different computers, a macbook pro and an imac, and both just freeze at around 12% download.
Cheers
Mik
  • I'd do it the other way. Download just to your Mac. Then attempt the download to your device. My download to both went without issue so you may even find it will work if you try again downloading to both.

    Just did a full install of Europe NT 2015.40 on device and Mac in one go. And everything worked fine. Hopefully next update will work first time.

    Using Garmin Express 4.0.11.0 to try and download the maps to the computer, managed to get a previous version of GE to download to the 3598 a few days ago but missed the download to computer switch during the many restarts.
    I tried to get the new version to create a set of maps on the computer, in in spite of having a 70mbs download speed, the download of the maps gets progressively slower now less than 1 mbs download speed at 38% complete.

    During previous download attempts the download would fail with a red message box. The GE program would then consume greater than 100% CPU - this on an 8 core machine.

    Express managed to download and install the latest Euro maps onto the two computers (Macs running Yosemite)

    but why the frustration, the ever slowing file download, the ever increasing CPU load on previous days.

    I can confirm that there is something wrong with Garmin Express. Using version 4.0.11.0 the download never stops (let it run for more dan 24 hours). CPU load goes to 200%; 100% for each core.
    I tried it on a Macbook Pro and on an iMac, both running Yosemite. I deinstalled it. Removed everything from the Library directory. No security programs running. No time-machine running.
    I really need to install a map because it has only a basemap now. I did a factory reset of my nuvi 2595 based on some tips in the forum. But that did not help either.
    Please Garmin, make some effort in fixing this problem. If you need any information, just ask. I am willing to allow a Garmin programmer access to my mac if that helps.

    There is somewhere a memory leak in the program, that's for sure.

    Garmin Europe Map Update - example same problem for over 3 weeks now....

    Just to confirm, exactly the same problem here. Partial download then CPU shoots to 100% on Garmin Express Service and the download data stops.
    Please fix this ASAP.

    Would be most grateful if someone at Garmin got moving on this problem. Unit I have is 2595LM...

    Thank you!

    Same problem here.

    iMac with Yosemite 10.10.2 and Garmin Express 4.0.11.0.
    The Download starts but stalls pretty soon and after a few minutes the download aborts with a red 'There was an error' message.
    In the traces i see the programm open connections to three sites:
    * omt.garmin.com
    * download.garmin.com
    * ams1.gdn.garminsource.net

    The last seems to be the distribution net which no longer answers.

    This is pretty annoying, as this kind of error is here with every update. Everytime a new map update is out these kinds of error come up and consume lots of time and efford to get the paid content downloaded. Can't be that hard programming a downloader for 3.3 Gig of data. After all thats just a small amount of data in modern times. Games for instance frequently download much larger data chunks.

    regards
    Thomas

    Very annoying and lots of time wasted.
    I have had the download jam anywhere between 8 and 65% and no other option than the rather scary crashing out of the Garmin Express.
    The program does have a memory leak somewhere because the mac has been very confused and I have had to restart which is not a very frequent activity with a mac.
    I tried again a bit later in the evening and now it seems to work fine.
    The map downloaded and built fine and now it is only 5 minutes left of the installation and I feel optimistic...
    Garmin, don't inform all of Europe that you have a new map release unless your servers can deal with it ;-)

    Same issue here with a Macbook Pro and a 3598.......mine gets through 'building' to 'configuring' and gets stuck on 28 minutes remaining every time. £250 odd spent on a top end unit with lifetime updates that doesn't update. Not happy.
