Garmin Express on Mac is reordering glances on Fenix 8 Solar

When I plug in my Fenix 8 Solar to my Mac to update software and maps, the glances are reordered. This is frustrating as I regularly use the top three glances.

I understand this is a widely recognised problem, I'm just reporting to add to the pool of data.

  • Garmin Express on Mac keeps reordering Fenix 8 Solar glances after sync. Frustrating issue, hope Garmin fixes it soon. Workaround might be syncing from Windows.

  • I originally reported this for Mac on the Foreunner 955.  After the false claim of this being fixed in 7.27, and after some more time had passed support recently told me it really had now been fixed and I could install the new version: 7.27.1.  The problem is that 7.27.1 is the Windows version.  Garmin support was wrong to tell me that it had been fixed as the release date for 7.27.1 on Mac has not yet been announced.   I'm hoping that when 7.27.1 eventually does arrive for Mac that this issue will finally be fixed, although I'm not holding my breath and expect there still to be an issue.

On another note it would also be good if the updates on Garmin Express actually reflected what is on the device when the s/w is started, but Garmin doesn't recognise that this is an issue.  Presumably it is supposed to work this way?  See  Garmin Express always shows updates already on device

  • It does this for years now. It reorders glances, deletes Connect IQ items and installs them like it wishes.
My theory is simply: The watch keeps a list of CIQ items installed, CIQ App keeps a list of CIQ items installed and Express keeps a list of Items installed. If you normally install via mobile phone and reorder mobile or on device, Express doesn’t read the list and brings the watch to the state it has in its own list.
The worst thing is that it also deletes data fields. There are some data fields wich are needed for specific sensors so you want to check if they are present on the watch before you want to use them.

My workaround: Set Garmin Express not to synch the watch and only use it to install maps. Do everything else on the phone.

  • If Garmin is unable to fix this it it would be helpful if the option on the Utilities tab to enable synching of connect IQ apps was disabled when you pair with a phone, or was only set during installation based on interrogating the user on whether they are going to pair with a phone.
