Unexpected error!!!!

I've just bought my first Garmin and am unable to log my run due to a message that keeps coming up everytime I try to launch Express. I am told its an unexpected error. I am pretty annoyed that having bought the watch the software to support it won't work :mad: Not cool. Is there anyway to make it work. I am on a Windows 7, no access to other devices.

    the same error. When i start the program i get a window with unexpected error contact garmin support.

    GE's working for me, as it is for many others. 2000 views with only a handful complaining perhaps points to less of a problem than you think. I agree it's annoying for a few though, and if Garmin have the logs they'll be working through them.


    Also the handful have the right on a working program. There is no way on earth we would accept that we buy a coffee machine and some of us, maybe only a few are unable to make coffee and are okay with it. Yes the device works but mine has included life time map updates (paid for it) and therefore i need the program. Annoying is when i have to take extra steps or a difficult to read screen with some garbage on it. But a not working program is beyond Annoying that is unacceptable.

    I think its unreasonble to say the majority has a working program so deal with it, it is not such a problem and over time there will be a solution.

    I agree the people off garmin need time to solve the problem. But as mentioned before in this thread there should be some regular updates on this issue from garmin.
    The last sollution presented was that we should wait on a new version release. And 4.0 is a new version release and it did not work for some of us.

    Would it not be correct if they at least asked if the new version solved our problems.

Do the get the 'unexpected error' message when you start Express so it doesn't even make the initial screen or when you try to add a device or what?

    I agree that it should work for all, but some computers have programs that interfere with Express. Your analogy with the coffee machine is a good one, the fact is some coffee machines don't work correctly either!

    But the coffee machine i can swap and they never blame the power outlet or the place it stands on. And yes wrong coffee beans can be the reason but at least with a coffee machine they can exactly pinpoint you to the beans and you can solve it without installing a brand new kitchen on your personal cost and time :-) In my job i interacted with a lot of software programmers and i understand that it is not easy to find a problem like this. It needs a lot of debugging and the famous needle in the ......... But they always kept us in the loop.

    No the issue is the same as with the older version. You click Garmin Express and after the initial screen you get directly the error unexpected error please contact Garmin. The only difference with version 3 is that I saw only the logo screen with the start button and with version 4 i can see the screen where you can add a device behind the error window. I'm never able to interact with the program. Right after the start it comes with the error. Therefore i suspect it has difficulties reading or locating some dll file. And yes i tried a reinstall.

    Do not forget that only people that are able to write in english do post here with their problems and I know a lot of french guys that are not able so they just try to read what they can (as the forum with support only exists in english). That is one explanation of the many 'views' with only a few complaining.

    The big problem with this bug is, like Peter said, Garmin do not keep us in the loop even if they said they would !

    I also want to add that not only people with a different language but a lot off people with a device without lifte time map update never connect there navigation device to there computer. They just use it in there cars and never bother to install updates or maybe do not understand why to install on the computer. Take it from met that are a lot of people.

    After upgrading to 4.0 yesterday, GE stopped working! When I try to downgrade back to 3.29, I get "Express is ALREADY installed". I'm now dead in the water!!! GARMIN!!! PLEASE FIX!!!


    - Uninstall version 4
    - turn pc off and On again
    - install old version

    p.s.
    When you uninstall and if you don't restart pc in register you still have data from 4 version and i don't know why or how express tray still runing if you already delete GE.
    The best way to uninstall GE from Pc is to use iobit uninstaller ( its free ) you must also set deep scan so he will also look in registry and you can remove all GE trash, then restart Pc and install different version.

    A lot of people don't read this forum, don't know english and when he have problem with GE they just whait for GE team to make fix.
    But as we see along with this 71 update of GE they don't know how to fix.
    Map updater maybe have some bug but he have maybe 10 update and work like charm, but GE with 71 update still don't work.

    Now is best time to discontinued GE and remove it from my garmin page where you have it when you try to update map and add back map updater for map download.

    I am sorry about the delay in getting this resolved. The issue appears to be missing registry keys on these computers. However, Garmin Express v4.0.8.0 should now work on computers that are experiencing this issue. Please update to the latest version of Garmin Express from the Settings page and let me know how it works.
