Unexpected error!!!!

I've just bought my first Garmin and am unable to log my run due to a message that keeps coming up everytime I try to launch Express. I am told its an unexpected error. I am pretty annoyed that having bought the watch the software to support it won't work  Not cool. Is there anyway to make it work. I am on a Windows 7, no access to other devices.
  • Well there could be many causes of this, normally it's an issue with the relevant PC. But I'm not clear where you are in the process. Have you been able to install Express? Or is it the installation of Express that's causing the error?

I have installed Connect which opens and works fine. Its when I go to add my device, it will recognise it and gives me two options: make new account or use existing account. Neither works. It tells me to contact Customer Support but we don't have one in my country.

We have seen this issue pop up on a few computers. This is a very strange the error of "Unexpected Error has occurred and Garmin Express needs to close" doesn't happen to every computer only a select few. We are looking into this and have an open ticket on this issue. I have sent you a private message requesting additional information that may help us to determine the cause of this problem.

When there is new information on this we will update this post.

Thank you so much Mike, I really appreciate that.

I have looked over the log files that you submitted and what the logs indicate is that there's some type of permissions issue here. The computer you are using do you have full Admin rights? This is not your typical error we see unless the program is unable to access a file or folder location. The error in the logs is showing Access is denied. (Exception from HRESULT: 0x80070005 (E_ACCESSDENIED).

If you have a different user account on the computer try logging into the other account. If you don't you could try creating a new user on your computer and give this user account Admin rights. Once logged into the 2nd account try running Express on this account to see if you get any further.

Yes its my own laptop, I have full admin access. I'll try those options and see what happens.
  • Mike,

I also experiment this problem on my PC but the error message seems to be different from dublinrose's one, so I posted a new thread called "Unexpected Error !! (2)" ... I you could have a look at it and tell me what you think about it I would really appreciate.
    Thanks,

  • The computer you are using do you have full Admin rights? ... and give this user account Admin rights.

What exactly is the importance of having "full Admin rights" here? Is it just for troubleshooting this particular OP's problem? Or does Garmin Express always require full Admin rights to operate properly?

We recommend running under an Administrator Account type on a home computer. This reduces the possibility of encountering permissions errors while using or installing Garmin software.

I have the same problem here. Used an other admin account but still the unexpected error.
