Forerunner 310xt won't sync in Garmin Express

Hi
I have been trying to sync my 310xt but nothing happens. I've clicked on 'scan for devices' icon and also tried to search for a new device but not getting anywhere.
I get a message saying that an Ant+ stick is connected to my computer, so I assume that's ok and I've also checked that data transfer is enabled and pairing is on, on my 310xt.
Not very impressed with Garmin Express, never had any trouble with AntAgent.
  • Fix in post #28 didn't work for me, either. Yes, my 310XT is running software version 4.50. No, I didn't do the master reset, nor will I at this point in time. Sorry Garmin, but you've got to come up with a different solution that doesn't erase all of the data from my 310XT.

I'll continue to delete the device in GE and then let GE find it again. Crazy! Makes you wonder why GE can't find it in the first place???? Why is it that when I reboot my PC that GE can no longer find my 310XT? That is the problem that needs to be solved. I don't buy that resetting my 310XT is the solution.
  • The problem is actually the 310XT. When it pairs with Garmin Express it creates a file that acts like an inventory list. The state of the watch causes some corruption in the file. Once Garmin Express closes and the supporting process close the file cannot be detected upon restart. Doing a master reset cleans up the firmware on the 310XT and allows it to create a valid file the next time it pairs. All of your data is already uploaded to Garmin Connect so you wont loose any data on the 310XT.

  • Thank you Curt, that worked. After performing a master reset of the 310XT, it now syncs as soon as I start up Garmin Express.

To others, do the steps in #28, make sure your 310XT is at rev 4.50, then do a master reset.

WRONG! I just lost run data that I did NOT want to lose! I'm so PISSED right now! I'm sending this piece of sh%$ back to Amazon as defective for a refund. Garmin, you need to get your sh%% together and put out some decent software. I *REALLY* liked the 310XT and its capabilities. It's a really nice piece, but without working software to transfer the data and analyze it, it is WORTHLESS. Your Facebook page is FILLED with complaints dating back to MARCH, and you STILL can't it working right!? Really? I will be leaving an appropriate review on Amazon, and when it is time to shop for a new automotive GPS, Garmin will NOT be in consideration.

I am sorry for the troubles and any misunderstanding. If the activities had already been uploaded to Garmin Express then master resetting the device would only delete the activities from the watch itself. It would not effect the activities uploaded to Garmin Connect.

If you were previously uploading data with the ANT Agent and had started having trouble after installing Garmin Express, delete the device from Express then clean up the left over ANT Agent data. Pair the device with Express again and your uploads should resume.

    1. Delete the contents of the C:\Users\yourusername\AppData\Roaming\Garmin\Devic es\
    1. Press the Windows Key + R key together
    2. Type this exactly, %Appdata%
    3. Click OK
    4. Open the Garmin folder
    5. Open the Devices folder
    6. Delete the numbered folder (unit id of the fitness device)

    2. Delete the contents of the LegacyProxy folder located in C:\ProgramData\Garmin\LegacyProxy folder
    1. Press the Windows Key + R key together
    2. Type this exactly, %Programdata%
    3. Click OK
    4. Open the Garmin folder
    5. Open the LegacyProxy folder
    6. Delete the numbered folder (unit id of the fitness device)

    3. Restart the computer

    4. Pair the device and creating a couple of short 1 min test activities.

If you continue to have troubles I suggest you contact us by phone: http://www.garmin.com/us/support/

Again I am sorry for the troubles.

  • I also have a 310XT. This problem occured in the past with the AntAgent and this problem also occurs With Garmin Express. I have Firmware V4.50 For me the real pain isn't the loss of stuff that I've already uploaded, it's the fact that a master reset:
    - wipes my my personalised screen layouts - I have specific ones for Interval training, long runs, for both running and cycling.
    - wipes my personal waypoints that I use to get back home, carpark etc.
    - wipes my courses
    - wipes my training plans

One of my workarounds for the corrupted files (See Curt's post #35) when using Ant agent, was to previously take a backup of a good version of the file GarminDevice.XML, keep a copy of it and copy it back over if I noticed a problem. I'm going to try to do the same thing with Express now installed to see if it fixes it.

  • Hi
I have been trying to sync my 310XT but nothing really happens. The device claims to be syncing however the data is not uploaded to Garmin Connect...I have no idea where it goes as it deletes from my device?! Any suggestions?
I have already deleted the device from GarminExpress and reinstalled it but nothing seems to work.
Pretty unimpressed with Garmin Express, I never had any trouble with AntAgent.

I suggest you re-enter your Garmin Connect credentials in Express then use the Settings-->History-->Transfer All menu on the watch to send all the data again.

To re-enter your credentials in Express:

    • Open Express
    • Select the 310XT from the drop down menu
    • Click Device menu
    • Scroll down to the Garmin Connect Account section
    • Click Change Account
    • Enter your username and password
