Map update problem with Garmin Express

I have attempted to update the maps on my Nuvi with the old installer. I was then forced to install the Garmin Express program to do so. The maps and other software updates downloaded alright. However, they never installed on my unit (no warning, no error messages during 5 hours).

I then went to MyDashboard online with the latest Firefox browser. The Garmin site never recognized that the latest Garmin Communicator module was already installed. I then used Internet Expplorer to log into MyGarmin. When I went to the maps update section, I was told that a map update failed and instructed to double-click on the file to start the installation process. However, I never found the bloody file on my computer. I was also offered the choice to entirely remove Garmin Express from my computer. I did so and logged back into MyDashboard. When I attempted to re-download the maps I was again told to install Garmin Express. I did so and I was then informed that it installed correctly. However, the program is now so sluggish that it does not recognize my unit when plugged-in and won't let me register it.

What the hell is going on with your map update process? Is there a solution to my problems?

Frustrated and angry,
  • Moderator note ... As there is now an Express forum I have moved this thread there.
  • BA.EATON - I have sent you a private message to collect the Express log files from your computer. After I receive the logs, I should have a better idea of what is happening behind the scenes.

  • Without wishing to disagree I have never had an issue updating maps with Garmin Express, though I shied away from using it until the last 2 map updates as before then there were many reports about it being buggy. However the Express team seems to be seriously on the case now, and if you're having issues they will help, but they need a bit more info than the post above. Mind readers they're not.

Serious Customer service issue, and serious software and support issues!

I just bought a Zumo 660. Big mistake!3 hrs of trying to get Sub-Saharan Africa Street view (with product serial number rather than CD) istalled. End result, the Zumo 660 won't update.

What a joke Garmin have become. They use to be the only contender (20 years ago).
  • Well perhaps with a bit more detail you could get some help, but my crystal ball is a bit cloudy today.

You say you just bought a Zumo 660. Was this new? Have you registered it? Which map and what version did it come with?

What do you mean by Sub-Saharan Africa Street view? Do you mean this http://www.garmap.co.za/Catalog/View.aspx?cid=31&vt=1&tag=maps, which is the Garmap Sub Saharan Africa Streetmap (not Street view).

Where and how did you purchase that map?

You say the Zumo 'won't update'. What are you trying to 'update' and how are you trying to do it?

Where and with what error message (if any) does the 'update' fail?
  • Need some more info here ...

What maps were previously loaded on your 2595 and what version were they?

Exactly what map have you purchased and how? Note new maps need to be activated, see this FAQ

  • Well you didn't make some of this clear in your first post. You said you'd bought maps ... if they came already on the device and you have lifetime updates then there is no need to 'activate' them ... so exactly what have you bought? It's difficult to advise without knowing the real facts.

What map came on your 2595LM?

What exactly then have you 'bought on line'?

What made you think when you got in the car you would find 'new maps'? What did you think you had done?

With a bit of clarity whatever state your GPS is in can be resolved, but at the moment I'm unclear exactly what you've bought/tried/done
  • Shame you feel that way. I've been updating Garmins for years and haven't had issues with either MapUpdater or Express, apart from one occasion, and I update 3 or more devices every 3 months. Fact is that most errors are at the user end, so you're just as likely to have issues with TT etc.

However if you wish to get help, then help us to help you by posting details of what you're trying to do and what you've done so far and where it's failed. Then there's a chance you can be helped. But I'm sure you'll understand that if someone says 'I tried to update my maps but it doesn't work' there is little advice that can be offered by the very experienced users and Garmin staff that are here to help.

It is now june of 2014. I have Garmin express already on my computer, and it is not doing a damn thing. I have signed into my Garmin account with my sign in and it doesn't do a damn thing. I have been working on this for 2 hours and you can't even find my system. It's like Garmin is not there. I have done everything it has requested me to do and nothing is working.
  • Well I'm not clear what you've tried or even what you're trying to do, but in most cases it's an issue with the users PC rather than Garmin. I think from your post that your device isn't even being detected so you may want to work through this FAQ

    http://support.garmin.com/support/searchSupport/case.faces?caseId=%7Be908ee90-c6c1-11e1-dcef-000000000000%7D

If I've misunderstood or this FAQ doesn't help please come back and post exactly what you're trying to do and where the process is failing.
