After installing the new Express version 7.18.0 and syncing my Forerunner 45, I found that all saved activities were gone. The log was empty.
I had this trouble before with version 7.13.0 and ask that this be corrected, thank you very much!

The issue has been resolved in a just released when updated to Garmin Express version 7.18.1.
Has anyone opened a case with Garmin Product Support? I'm chatting with them now.

Me: After updating Garmin Express to version 7.18, all of the activity…
Any chance to get these files back?
Not necessarily needed and can even cause issues if you have excessive activities stored on your watch. If you feel the need, I would just download the last…
Using a Garmin Forerunner 235 and Garmin Express 7.18 delete activities on the device. I created a "run", sync'd on a different PC which has 7.17.3.0 and that prior version Of Garmin Express does NOT delete the history of activities off of the device. I hope that Garmin can repair 7.18.0 soon. regards, Your Unpaid Garmin Express Software Beta Tester
same here, i tried manually putting some .fit files onto the watches activities folder, but as soon as you connect the watch to garmin express, it'll wipe the folder clean again, this is a bad day, garmin express not working, garmin virb edit stopped working too.
So, I just contacted Garmin US and asked if there's any way to get the Activity folder files back. The response:
"You would be able to get those loaded back onto the watch. I would remove the watch from the connect app and the phone bluetooth settings and then add it again and let it sync and that will repopulate the activity history back to the watch. https://www8.garmin.com/manuals/webhelp/GUID-676967A0-1B23-4384-9BC9-76F3D643F1C8/EN-US/GUID-E9BE9F99-542F-42DF-9C30-B576E5ADD338.html "
Has anyone tried this? It seems benign but takes some time and I don't want to create any new problems.
The app doesn't work that way. Syncing activities is only from the watch to Garmin Connect, not the other way. Garmin devices are not intended to store activity files indefinitely. In fact, the \GARMIN\ACTIVITY folder should be cleared from the watch periodically just as a matter of maintenance and to minimize future issues. Once you've synced with Garmin Connect, there is usually no need to save all the fit files on the device.
The problem is that I lose the Last Run glance on the watch, my weekly mileage, runs completed and other recent detail. It's not critical but it was useful to have those stats on the watch for me instead of only on the phone and web. Thanks for the explanation on sync'ing...makes sense.
Happening for me too - Forerunner 630. Like others, I keep a backup of FIT files on my PC and also like to be able to see the recent ones on the watch. Of course the watch isn't designed to store them indefinitely, but it has always managed to delete the oldest ones automatically, keeping a few months worth, in the past. I also found that the launching of Garmin Connect is worse than before; often the first attempt launches the login page, if you close the browser and try again it works as it should (this is with Firefox). Never had this before.
