Same problem with my 6x pro

I was able to copy the maps to my Fenix 6, but not with Garmin Express. Go to C:\ProgramData\Garmin\CoreService\Downloads\Map\Map_Map.ActiveEU.2020.10\rmu\activeeu\2020_10 then look for the .img files. Copy them to your Garmin map on the Fenix. Works good for me :-)

Based on the fact that these files can be copied to the target device and used straight-away it tells me that Garmin might possibly has forgotten about locking / encrypting them prior to release, hence the error during activation stage...

O small tip, fisrt let Garmin Express do the update, then loof for the .img files

on macOS it is:

~/Library/Application Support/Garmin/Express/Maps

it is NOT the first (or 2nd) time this exact thing happens. It has happened 3-4 times before that I know of. Exact same error with prior map updates across Garmin's Platform...

Same problem for Fenix 5X

Same for Fenix  5X Plus.  Neither normal user invocation nor administrator invocation helps. Download seems to be complete (29.9% of overall update progress) then, "Activating maps..." replaces "Downloading files..." and the update aborts.
