Burn / rash marks

Posting on behalf of my wife. I got her a vivoactive 3 for xmas. Since wearing it she have developed a burn patch area on her arm under the optical sensor. I have photos and her doctor has indicated that the skin  is damaged. The skin damage is in a rectangle shape directly under the area where the three green lights sit for the optical HR.

She wears it 24/7 except for when she showers. She cleans the sensor daily and drys her arm fully before putting the watch back on after the shower. She has now moved the watch to the other arm and the same appears to be happening there. This process takes a few days / week of continued wear to occur.

Are others seeing this issue?  is it a burn or a rash?   The first arm is still red with a raised hard red skin area even after a week of wearing it on the other arm.

The Doctor doesnt think its a rash but we have a topical cream just in case.

thanks

Richard

  • Having worn the watch for a year - previous to this a Fitbit Versa which also did similar to my wrist (and does to many as their community forum reveals) - after the Verda fell to bits I moved to Garmin. Having found these posts I decided to contact Garmin UK support. Who were accommodating and fantastic.

Within a week they had sent free of charge a leather band, which I selected. Yes they gave some advice by email but having answered their questions they concluded the best resolution would be an alternative band.

cannot state highly enough the first class nature ofGarmin UK support.

  • I have the exact same issue. Never had issues for 2 years. The burn just happened in last 6 months. I thought its because of excessive contact with water cos i wash hands more often since COVID but i wear it on the other hand and remove the watch before handwash but it atill burned my skin. Now both hands are burned. The burn takes months to get better but havent fully recover. This is very bad. Reported thre issue to garmin customer service and the service center but they onky suggest that i don't let the watch get in contact woth water but the watch ia supposed to be waterproof right??

  • I tried many things but the skin rash continued. I reluctantly bought a nylon strap online. My skin cleared up from day one with the new strap. £10 to sort a problem that was bugging me. Worth it.

  • Hello I have the same problem with a garmin Instinct bought last year but I discovered marks only few month ago, not as red as your wife's wrist.

I am so sorry this has happened. I would like to get this resolved for you. Unfortunately this is not an issue that can be easily reproduced in-house so we will need to gather information about your specific experience. Can you tell me if you are in the US or CAD?

Hi I had the same problem and Garmin changed mine and said it must have been faulty it had burnt my arm in the same place as your wife and it took months to heal.  They did replace it, however it’s happened again with the replacement.  I only wear day time and take off to shower. I will be contacting Garmin again!!

  • Neither of the two, I'm in France. A friend who has one, told me he only wear it during the day so the marks don't appear.

They are collecting my watch and refunding me what I paid now as this has happened twice which is good!

  • Ok, I will need you to contact your local Garmin support in France so they can get this resolved immediately for you!

  • Ok thanks for your quick reply Thumbsup
